Ring Sundial

Hi, I have a practical note on timekeeping. The symbols S and W refer to measurements using the summer sun (S for Sommer) and winter sun (W for Winter). References to "current" calendar times don't work here. That's why it's important to use the reading for S starting from the 14th day of the month of Taurus (April) and for W from the 10th day of the month of Scorpio (October). Both positions are clearly marked on the inside of the clock – in the vertical position right at the bottom. Then the measurement is perfectly accurate and corresponds to the former CET (during the period of so-called daylight saving time, you now need to add +1h). Best, Petr, Prague 9.

Dobrý den, mám praktickou poznámku k měření času. Symboly S a W platí pro měření letním sluncem S(Sommer) a zimním sluncem W(Winter). Vztažnost na "současné" kalendářní časy apod. ale nefungují. Proto je důležité používat odečet pro S od 14 dne měsíce Býka (duben) a W od 10 dne měsíce Štíra (říjen). Obě pozice jsou přesně označeny na vnitřní straně hodin - ve svislé poloze přímo dole. Potom je měření naprosto přesné a odpovídá bývalému SEČ (v době platnosti tzv. letního času odečtu je nyní nutné přičítat + 1h). Zdraví Petr, Praha 9.

The inside looks a bit plain to me, but otherwise I like the clock. Now I just need to figure out how to use it, I didn't quite get the manual :)

Vniřek mi připadá nevýrazný, ale jinak se mi hodiny líbí. Ještě se tak s nimi naučit, návod jsem nepochopil :)

I bought a pair and they're awesome. I'm just using them as a lucky charm for now because telling time with them is a real trip, but they're great otherwise.

Jedny jsem si koupil a jsou super. Zatím je mám jen jako amulet pro štěstí, protože ta orientace v čase s nima je mazec, ale jinak jsou super.

I didn't believe they would work at all - the opposite is true. They measure quite accurately! Just minus one star for the not-so-great metal quality. Yeah, cleaning the casting molds pays off ;)

Vůbec jsme nevěřil tomu, že budou fungovat - opak je pravdou. Měří v podstatě přesně! Jen mínus hvězdičku za ne až tak kvalitní zpracování kovu. Jojo, čistit licí formy se vyplácí ;)

I recently received the clock and I can't praise it enough – it keeps time accurately, looks great, and the minor casting/stamping imperfections only add to its charm. The only flaw one might complain about is the illegibility of the zodiac signs on the two columns – specifically the left one for the winter months and the right one for the summer months on my piece (which, as far as I can tell, is the case for almost all of these clocks). However, you just need to think for a moment and fill in the signs yourself – for the winter signs, Capricorn and Libra are on the left column, Scorpio and Pisces in the middle, and Sagittarius and Aquarius on the right. For the summer signs, Gemini and Leo are on the left, Taurus and Virgo in the middle, and Aries and Cancer on the right.

I would also like to thank Mr. Gajdoš, whose guide on how to use the clock is excellent and helped me a lot. I would just like to correct one small error – the addition of one hour doesn't depend on the GMT zone, but on the fact that he was measuring during daylight saving time, which is shifted by one hour from standard (solar) time. Therefore, in standard time, the time read from this clock does not need to be adjusted. Also, be careful when abroad; some countries don't observe daylight saving time at all, or don't use it at all ;)

Hodiny mi nedávno přišly a nemůžu si je vynachválit - měří přesně, vypadají skvěle, a chyby ražby/odlití jim jen přidávají na kráse. Jediná vada, na kterou by si lidé mohli stěžovat, je nečitelnost znamení dvou sloupců - u mého kusu konkrétně levého u zimních měsíců a pravého u letních (pokud jsem správně koukal, tak je tomu tak téměř u všech těchto hodin). Nicméně se stačí trochu zamyslet a příslušné znamení si dosadit - u zimních znamení jsou na levém sloupci Kozoroh a Váhy, na středním Štír a Ryby a na pravém Střelec a Vodnář. U letních znamení pak na levém Blíženci a Lev, na středním Býk a Panna a na pravém Beran a Rak.

Ještě bych rád poděkoval panu Gajdošovi, jehož návod na měření je znamenitý a moc mi pomohl, jen bych opravil malou chybičku - to přičtení jedné hodiny se neodvíjí od pásma gmt, ale od toho, že s nimi měřil v letním pásmovém čase, který je o hodinu posunut od zimního (a tedy slunečního) času. V zimním čase se tedy odečtený čas z těchto hodin nijak neupravuje. A pozor si tudíž dejte i v cizích zemích, někde letní čas vůbec zaveden není, nebo se nepoužívá ;)

Awesome! The size surprised me too, but for this price, it's a beautiful necklace accessory and, with a little practice, a decent timekeeper. I've tested it five times so far and the deviation was never more than 10 minutes, so it's really well made!

Skvělé! Také mě překvapila velikost, ale za tuto cenu krásný doplněk na krk a po troše cviku i dobrý časoměřič. Zatím jsem odhadoval pětkrát a nikdy nebyla odchylka větší než 10 minut, tudíž je to moc dobrá práce!

They might not tell the time (which is definitely not a flaw in the clock), but I use them as a cool accessory for my costume :)

Sice s nimi nedokážu určit čas (což rozhodně není chyba hodin), ale používám je jako hezký doplněk ke kostýmu :)

A bit of a disappointment. I should have trusted the other reviews. The text on the inside is almost unreadable. I'm missing the manufacturer's measuring instructions - you can find them online from other customers.

Trošku zklamání. Měla jsem věřit ostatním recenzím. Text na vnitřní straně je téměř nečitelný. Chybí mi návod pro měření od výrobce - dá se dohledat online od ostatních zákazníků.
