How does StarCraft compare to the giants?
Compared to Warhammer 40,000, StarCraft is much more "fluid." In Warhammer, you typically deploy everything at the start, whereas in StarCraft, your units constantly arrive from reserves as reinforcements from your base.
If you play the popular Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings, you'll feel right at home, but StarCraft gives you more freedom. In Conquest, you must follow waves (light, medium, heavy), while in StarCraft, it's entirely up to you and your Supply. Have enough capacity? Send a Siege Tank in the very first round and surprise your opponent.
First impressions: What do the testers say?
Initial reviews and playtest impressions are enthusiastic and agree on several points:
Game feel: The game truly feels like StarCraft. The "direct counter" system works perfectly – if you send the right unit against its ideal target, you will literally vaporize it thanks to the Surge dice.
Model quality: The final models are top-notch, detailed, and free of ugly mold lines that would annoy you during painting.
Pacing: Smaller 1000-point games are a fast-paced brawl lasting about an hour and a half, while 2000 points offer a deep strategic experience.
Which faction will you choose?
Before you start shopping, think about which playstyle suits you best:
Terrans (Humans): Do you like lead, heavy machinery, and tactical flexibility? The Terrans are all about proper positioning. They have great range and can keep units alive for a long time thanks to Medivacs. Ideal for those who want to blast the opponent away before they can get close.
Zerg (The Swarm): Do you love aggression and the feeling of an endless wave crashing over the enemy? The Zerg will thrill you. They are fast, deadly in melee, and their strength lies in numbers. You don't worry about losses; you simply smother the opponent with a mass of bodies and sharp claws.
Protoss (Advanced Race): Are you looking for quality over quantity and technological superiority? The Protoss are your choice. You'll have fewer models on the table, but each one is a small army. Energy shields and psionic storms allow you to dominate the battlefield with incredible elegance.
