Why use a Game Master screen
A Game Master screen (DM screen, GM screen) is a folding panel that stands between the narrator and the players. It hides your notes, maps, and dice rolls that players shouldn't see. The side facing the GM usually contains rules tables, so you don't have to flip through the rulebook during the game.
System-specific or universal
- Game-specific screens feature tables and rules for a particular system. You'll find screens here for Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, The One Ring, Dračí hlídka, The Witcher RPG, Alien, Vaesen, Fallout, or Old-School Essentials.
- Universal screens, such as wooden ones, don't have specific game rules. They are perfect for GMs who play multiple systems or want to clip their own notes to them.
You can use a screen from a different system as a cover, but the tables on it only apply to their respective game.
What to look for when choosing
- Material: Sturdy cardboard is lightweight and portable, while wood lasts longer and is more stable.
- Included accessories: Some screens come with an adventure booklet, a map, or cards.
- Panel height: A taller screen provides better cover, while a lower one doesn't obstruct contact with the players.
