The most famous characters from the Pokémon animated series

The central character around whom the series revolves is the young Pokémon Trainer Ash Ketchum. With the experience he gains, the impulsive boy eventually becomes a Pokémon League champion. Although Ash is the main character, the absolute icon and most famous hero of the series is his first Pokémon Pikachu, whom everyone recognizes today.

Over the years, Ash Ketchum has met many friends in the series who helped him on his long journey. Among the most popular are Brock, Dawn, Misty, Serena, Clemont, and also Gary Oak, the grandson of the famous Professor Oak. Equally iconic are Team Rocket, who regularly appeared in the series to try and steal Pikachu or other rare Pokémon.

Aside from the most famous Pikachu, many other famous and powerful Pokémon have passed through Ash Ketchum's hands. Whether it was Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or Snorlax, who appeared in the very first season, Charizard, who is still considered one of Ash's strongest Pokémon, or many others he caught later – such as Greninja, Sceptile, Infernape, Dragonite, or Lycanroc.
