How to spot fake Pokémon cards

Counterfeits are everywhere. Marketplaces, bazaars, "bargain" packs from shady shops. We get why you're hesitant, especially when buying for your kid or picking out your first booster.

We sell only official Pokémon TCG. We source our cards through authorized distribution channels. We know Pokémon, we play and collect them ourselves, and we host tournaments in our gaming space. We don't sell fakes!

What is a fake and why it matters

Fake card, counterfeit, knock-off — call it what you want. Why don't you want one?

  • You can't use it in tournaments. Official events require original cards.
  • It has no collector value. Nobody wants to trade or buy a fake.
  • Disappointment. A cheap pack looks like a win until you see the real thing for the first time.

Collecting Pokémon is a passion and a community. A fake just ruins the fun.

How to spot an original card

You don't have to be an expert. Just use a few tricks.

  • Look and feel. Fakes often feel wrong in your hand. The colors are usually off, especially on the back. The corners might be softer or worn out immediately.
  • The flashlight trick. Turn on your phone's flashlight. Hold it against the card. Does the light shine through? It's probably a fake. With an original, you'll only see a thin line of light around the edges, while many fakes let light through the entire surface.
  • Stats and content. A Pokémon card doesn't normally have thousands of HP. You won't pull three "ultra-rare" cards in one booster. A suspiciously cheap booster box is another red flag.
  • Where you buy. Unknown seller with no reviews, a marketplace with no guarantees, and a price way below market value? Better back away.
