Young Adult just for the young?

Thinking of YA as something "simpler" would be a huge mistake! It's not for nothing that another term is often attached to young adult: new adult—books for young adults. We know from our own experience that this genre contains books that will captivate even demanding fantasy and sci-fi fans, often praised by both literary critics and readers alike, such as the bestseller sci-fi series Scythe or the world-famous dystopia The Hunger Games. YA is truly diverse and will delight you with both fantasy classics and unconventional gems.

On the history and present of YA

YA literature only reached the wider awareness of Czech readers during the 21st century. However, in America and elsewhere in the world, YA has been around since the 19th century, with a major boom in the 1970s. That's why you'll find older pieces in our YA selection, such as the Harry Potter wizarding saga. An important element is a hero or heroes of a similar age to the reader.

Since 2016, Albatros Media a.s. has hosted a festival every autumn called HumbookFest, where fans of young adult literature meet. It is the largest YA literature festival in Central Europe.
