A gamebook is an ordinary book, but instead of classic chapters, it is divided into individual numbered scenes. Each scene offers several outcomes, and based on simple rules, you decide how the plot continues. Most gamebooks place you in the role of the main hero. Winning such a game means successfully reaching the end of the story.
Different types of gamebooks have their own rules for combat or magic—the gaming element can manifest through various uses of chance (rolling dice during combat or picking a random number from a table). The books often contain puzzles, riddles, typographic tricks, and other interesting ideas to spice up your reading experience.
A leading publisher of gamebooks in the Czech Republic is currently Mytago, which has revived the legendary Lone Wolf series, published several titles from the Fighting Fantasy series, and also releases newly produced gamebooks, such as the phenomenal epic gamebook Rytíř temného slunce.
