War never changes...

The legendary game series saw its first installment released back in 1997, followed by the massive success of Fallout 2 the very next year, both from the workshops of Interplay and Black Isle Studios. The second game was spiced up with more humor, cultural nods, and pop-culture references, such as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Monty Python.

Players had to wait until 2008 for Fallout 3, crafted by the pros at Bethesda Game Studios. Although the shift in gameplay style initially met with resistance from fans, the third installment gained a huge following, and the same studio went on to create Fallout 4, with work on the fifth installment expected to begin soon.

The series' popularity led to a slew of spin-offs. In 2001, we saw the squad-based Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, and the first console title, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, arrived in 2004. After the third game, the highly successful Fallout: New Vegas was released; it is often considered the direct successor to the third game, even though it was developed by Obsidian Studios. Other hits from this post-apocalyptic world include the fantastic Fallout Shelter, the slightly quirky Fallout Pinball, the online Fallout 76, and Fallout Shelter Online.

Fallout has also made its way to the tabletop with the miniatures game Fallout: Warfare, the excellent Fallout: The Board Game from 2017, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, and the tabletop RPG Fallout: The Roleplaying Game.

In 2024, we are looking forward to the Amazon series adaptation, which features the work of Jonathan Nolan, but don't forget that there is already a fantastic adaptation that provides plenty of fun despite its low budget: the fan-made web series Fallout: Nuka Break. Definitely don't miss it.
