A book I'd call the second most important for the game. Yes, the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide have a few monsters and enemies, but if you want your adventures to stand out and your monsters to be diverse, this is the book you'll need sooner or later.
It contains a vast amount of monsters and creatures with rich descriptions and illustrations that bring them to life. The Monster Manual is worth reading even outside of the game, and it's definitely worth it if you're running a campaign.
