OSR
/ productsOld School Renaissance (OSR) is a genre of role-playing games that prioritizes player skill over character stats and moves away from linear storytelling. Another key feature of OSR is the sandbox – an open playground full of "toys," tools, and possibilities that create a multi-layered environment, crossroads with many paths, and emergent storytelling.

The OSR wave began with the release of Dungeons & Dragons rules under an open license in 2000. In short, it’s a return to the playstyles that defined the first decade of old-school RPGs. Individual rule systems openly draw inspiration from older RPG editions, most notably OD&D (Original Dungeons & Dragons from 1974, such as Swords & Wizardry) and the Basic and Expert Dungeons & Dragons sets from 1981 (known as B/X, or Moldvay/Cook after the authors) – for example, Labyrinth Lord, Basic Fantasy RPG, or Lamentations of the Flame Princess.
The OSR genre expanded significantly with the rise of print-on-demand technology. It also gave birth to a new wave of rule systems that use modern mechanics to evoke the same feeling as the old-school and OSR rules (for example, Forbidden Lands). Try out some retro RPGs and face new challenges!
