"In the middle of the seas and time lies a mysterious island. Legend says that a mythical citadel rises from its heart, hiding an ancient tree that bears the fruit of fulfilled wishes. However, this miraculous treasure is guarded by the island's ruler, a sinister curse, and dangerous specters wandering the depths of the island's forests – the Guardians. A ship approaches. A group of adventurers determined to claim the treasure steps onto the beach. To succeed, you must explore the mysterious island, collect and use magical flowers, fight the Guardians, compete, and cooperate. You must act quickly, though; if you don't succeed by sunset, the curse will consume you entirely and turn you into mindless servants of the island's ruler – into more Guardians."
Insula is a game for 2-5 players that lasts less than an hour. It features an intriguing blend of competitive and cooperative gameplay. You play as a group of adventurers who have decided to explore the mysterious island of Insula. Your ship has landed on the beach, and your goal is to reach the citadel deep inland, guarded by the island's ruler, Kingoš, and claim his mythical treasure.
The game has many possible endings. You can win by defeating Kingoš and claiming the fruits of fulfilled wishes from the ancient tree. The island's ruler can also win, turning you all into more Guardians wandering the island soullessly. The Dark Lord thrives on your rivalry, which he cleverly exploits using a curse system. Sometimes it might be wise to combine your abilities during the game or at its end – then multiple players can win at once (which is better than wandering in the darkness, though it doesn't sound quite as good in the heroic tales told about you if you win alone).
The game is available in two versions: a classic box set and a travel version in a practical fabric pouch. The game components are nearly identical (smaller black-and-white rules, monochromatic energy tokens, cardboard Guardian tokens, and a player card split into multiple components to fit in the pouch).

The boxed version of Insula caught my eye primarily because of its beautiful illustrations. Unfortunately, there is no insert inside the box, so the components just slide around unnecessarily. They also cut corners on the game components, which are way too tiny. The rulebook is confusing and practically useless; you have to look online, where the PDF version is actually colorful and clear. The token pouch is already fraying. Personally, I would have preferred to pay extra and avoid these flaws.
Insula (verze v krabici) mě zaujala především krásnými ilustracemi. Bohužel uvnitř krabice chybí prokládka na komponenty, které se v ní zbytečně přesypávají. Šetřilo se i na herních komponentech, které jsou zbytečně mrňavé. Pravidla jsou nepřehledná a prakticky k ničemu, je třeba podívat se na internet, kde jsou v PDF naopak pravidla barevná a přehledná. Pytlíček na žetony se páře už teď. Osobně bych si raději připlatila a obešla se bez těchto nedostatků.
I've owned this game for about a year and I can highly recommend it. Especially the Advanced version.

Vlastním tuhle hru zhruba rok a můžu jí jen doporučit. Zvláště pokročilou verzi hry (Advanced).

-zvolené grafické ztvárnění nemusí být pro každého -pravidla nejsou nejšťastněji napsaná, ale dá se na to přijít :)
Pokud rádi škodíte soupeřům, je pro vás Insula jasná volba.
