The tea ceremony is a cornerstone of Japanese culture. It embodies the deepest and most essential concepts of Zen philosophy, hospitality, and respect. Tea, brought from China in the 13th century, was believed to heal the ailments of the Buddhist monks who drank it. Over the years, the tea ceremony became an opportunity for rest, allowing samurai to take a break from the turmoil of the battlefield. Master Sen no Rikyu elevated the tea ceremony into a display of social status and later an opportunity to discuss the culture, religion, and politics of all Japan.

In the The White Castle: Matcha expansion, you will encounter new locations to gain influence at court. If you get your clan members into good spots in the "chashitsu" (tea room), you will gain even more influence over events at Himeji Castle. Plus, you get an extra die to roll each round. But will it be enough?

Expand The White Castle with a new personal domain board and additional actions! The base game is required to play. Matcha contains plenty of components to add variability to your games: a new green bridge and dice, new spaces to gain influence (tea room) and resources (pond overlook), new clan members (geishas), and an additional resource (chasen). You will also have an extra turn available to try and score the maximum number of influence points.

The first edition of the expansion also includes Promo 4, which you can play with this expansion and cannot get anywhere else. It contains three die tokens with a new chasen resource on the reverse side.
