A gambeson is essential protection for both free and stage fencing. This padded doublet was worn under plate armor in the late Middle Ages and features a short, slim fit. The gambeson increases comfort while wearing armor and absorbs blows, reducing the risk of injury.

This dark olive-black gambeson by Ulfberth consists of three layers of fabric: an outer cotton canvas layer, a polyester padding layer, and a cotton lining. Various quiltings keep the padding in place and ensure comfort, while the garment closes with laces. Additional laces at the waist and sleeves allow you to attach leg armor or plate armor pieces.

You might need a moment to get used to the cut of the armholes, but it is typical for the late 14th century. The high collar (approx. 6.5 cm) also features a special cut and significantly increases comfort when wearing armor around the neck.
