Description
Welcome to Terrinoth, adventurer!
Runebound (Third Edition) is an expansive fantasy adventure game filled with magic, heroic battles, dangerous monsters, and powerful artifacts.
Runebound introduces a magical, perilous world of powerful sorcerers, noble knights, terrifying monsters, and deranged tyrants. It is a world of legendary heroes and their fearless deeds.
In this game, you and your opponents take on the roles of heroes setting out into the world for adventure. Along the way, you find magical artifacts and recruit skilled allies to help you. You will face fearsome monsters and diabolical traps, though the specific goal of your journey is determined by the scenario you are playing.
The main goal of the base game scenario is to defeat the Dragonlords and restore peace and order to the land of Terrinoth. In this scenario, the vile Lord Vorakesh seeks to find the ancient Dragon Runes and use them to resurrect Margath, a long-dead High Dragonlord. As a hero of this land, you must stop Lord Vorakesh from executing his mad plan at any cost.
Runebound is conceptually based on the legendary fantasy board game Talisman. At the beginning of the game, heroes travel the world, trying to defeat weak opponents to slowly train and grow stronger. Their goal is to harden themselves in battle, acquire magical items, and recruit powerful allies to stand a chance in a direct confrontation with the Dragonlords themselves.
Thanks to a large number of cards, individual game encounters never repeat, making every game unique. Additionally, a wide range of expansions is available for the game.

Runebound is beautifully crafted, both in terms of graphics and components. I really like the combat system using tokens instead of dice. It feels a bit strange at first, but you get used to it after the first game.
Overall, I like the game system and it's definitely an improvement over the second edition, but unfortunately, we found the game a bit too random. Also, I would never play this game with more than 2 players, because otherwise, you'll be bored waiting for your turn for quite a long time.
A visually stunning game where you gradually upgrade your hero for the final showdown with the main villain. There are plenty of quests, and each of the two villains adds their own unique ones. Since you're racing against the clock (the number of rounds before you lose), you won't have time to complete them all in a single playthrough.
Combat uses tokens. Each hero starts with three, but you gain more as you buy equipment. Heroes can train abilities that allow them to manipulate their own and their enemies' tokens (flipping, rerolling, or removing them). Unlike dice, this eliminates pure bad luck (anyone who has played Arkham Horror and rolled 10 dice with a blessing only to get zero successes will understand), and even if you have a bad draw, you still have a chance to turn things around.
