Nieuw Amsterdam

The Dutch West India Company founded Nieuw Amsterdam to boost the lucrative beaver fur trade with indigenous hunters living along the Hudson River. To establish a trading post, the company built a town and a fort at the tip of Manhattan. Populating the emerging colony required attracting and supporting European "patroons" – wealthy settlers or colonists of noble descent.

In Nieuw Amsterdam, you take on the role of these "patroons." You build your business, cultivate land, gather building materials, participate in elections, and send ships loaded with furs to the Old World. You also trade with the Lenape tribe, which becomes increasingly complex as you need new land and push the native inhabitants further up the Hudson River.
