International Fantasy
/ productsFantasy novels and sagas by international authors in Czech translation and in the original language — from Tolkien and Sapkowski to Pratchett, Martin, or Salvatore. Choose by world (The Witcher, Discworld, Tolkien's Works, Game of Thrones), by mood (romantasy, cozy fantasy), or by language — you can find originals among books in English. Large sagas are often released as box sets, so it's worth checking the binding and edition. We publish Rudoval and the Lone Wolf legends ourselves in our Mytago publishing house.

How to choose a fantasy novel or saga
The world and the author matter more than the cover. If you're hooked on a series or a game, start with the source material — The Witcher, Game of Thrones, and Warhammer (Age of Sigmar books) all have their own book series. Then choose a subgenre based on your mood:
- epic fantasy — vast worlds, wars, maps on the endpapers (Tolkien, Martin, Malazan Book of the Fallen),
- dark fantasy — grittier tone, grey heroes, violence without embellishment (Sapkowski, Warhammer),
- humorous fantasy — satire and parody of the genre (Pratchett's Discworld),
- romantasy and cozy fantasy — relationships in the foreground, or conversely, a calm story without saving the world.
Where to start with big sagas
Series are the most common reason why adult fantasy books end up half-read. A few proven entry points:
| Saga | Where to start | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| The Witcher | The Last Wish → Sword of Destiny → Blood of Elves | the two short story collections are essential, you can find the full order in the The Witcher category |
| The Lord of the Rings | The Hobbit → The Fellowship of the Ring | read The Silmarillion after the trilogy |
| A Song of Ice and Fire | A Game of Thrones (Book 1) | Fire & Blood is a prequel, not a sequel |
| Discworld | any cycle (City Watch, Death, Witches) | books are standalone, cycles can be read separately |
If you're planning to read the whole saga, save money on a box set — they are often available in both hardcover and paperback.
Translation or original
Most titles are in Czech, while originals are primarily in English. The original makes sense for books that haven't been translated into Czech yet or are out of print, and for collectors of illustrated editions. However, for wordplay (Pratchett) and archaic style (Tolkien), the translation is a more comfortable entry point even for good English speakers.
FAQ
What is the difference between international and Czech fantasy?
International fantasy includes authors from abroad — in translation and in the original. You can find domestic authors separately in the Czech and Slovak fantasy category.
Is there fantasy for adults or also for young people?
Both. Most titles target adult readers, while stories for teenagers with younger protagonists are gathered in the Young Adult category.
What is the difference between romantasy and cozy fantasy?
Romantasy puts a love story in the foreground, which is just as important as magic and adventure. Cozy fantasy is calm and snug — instead of saving the world, it might deal with a cafe, a bookstore, or friendship.
Do you also have e-books?
Yes, electronic editions have their own category: fantasy e-books.
