The city of Waterdeep is home to the Yawning Portal tavern. It gets its name from the gaping pit in its common room. At the bottom of this shaft lies the dungeon known as Undermountain, the realm of the mad wizard Halaster Blackcloak—an underworld teeming with monsters, traps, and secrets.

Dungeons & Dragons: Waterdeep - Dungeon of the Mad Mage is a new title in the series of board games set in the popular Dungeons & Dragons fantasy RPG. Players take on the roles of adventurers venturing into Undermountain, the mad mage's realm, where they face monsters and deadly traps in their search for treasure.

This set can be combined with other titles in the D&D Adventure System Cooperative Play series, such as Tomb of Annihilation, Temple of Elemental Evil, The Legend of Drizzt, Castle Ravenloft, or Wrath of Ashardalon.
