Description
Following Andean Abyss (the insurgency in modern Colombia), the second game in the COIN series is Cuba Libre, a strategy game for 1-4 players that drops you right into the Cuban Revolution. Castro's "26th of July Movement" must expand from its hidden bases in the Sierra Maestra mountains and fight its way to the capital, Havana. Meanwhile, anti-communist student groups, urban guerrillas, and exiles try to destabilize the Batista regime from within while paving the way for a new dictatorship—that of Fidel Castro. The Batista government struggles to hold its ground between these two millstones, all while balancing two benefactors: an alliance with the USA and the Syndicate led by Meyer Lansky (who pays Batista a share of his earnings), who built a gangster paradise in Cuba with Batista's permission and has no intention of losing it.
Cuba Libre is a strategy game full of diplomacy and negotiation. If you have already played Andean Abyss, you will find this game very easy to pick up, as it uses the same game system. You can play it solo or with up to 4 players, with a shorter playtime than Andean Abyss. However, the strategic decisions in Cuba Libre are entirely different, as a deck of brand-new events brings 1950s Cuba to life, such as:
- The Twelve: The 12 survivors of the first wave who met in the Sierra Maestra mountains
- Caracas Pact: Can the rebels unite?
- Armored Cars: A mobile strike force, but in whose hands?
- Rolando Masferrer: Brutal pro-government tactics—will they help or hurt?
- Fat Butcher: Can the gangsters defend their casinos?
The game is in English.
