I picked up Court of the Dead: Mourners Call after following the KS campaign and reading reviews for a while, and I definitely don't regret it. At first glance, the gameplay might seem quite complex (when you open the rulebook and see 8 different options for your turn), but the opposite is true. After the first game, you'll quickly master most of the moves, and the game flows smoothly from there. Despite what it might seem like at the start, this isn't your classic area control game.

The mechanics are balanced, and there are multiple ways to achieve victory. The craftsmanship and design were the first things that caught my eye (I own games like Blood Rage and Rising Sun, but the production quality of Court of the Dead is a class above)—beautifully illustrated cards and a vibrant board that looks even better in person than in the promo photos.

One downside I'd mention is that the game can end a bit too quickly. In a three-player game, you sometimes finish at the end of the second or the beginning of the third round, which is a shame because that's when you finally have enough components to really get things going. This issue is easily solved by adding "unity tokens" to extend the playtime.
Another drawback is that the base game is for 2-4 players. You need to get the KS edition of the game for the fifth-player components.

To sum it up: The game is very snappy and fast-paced. It features interesting mechanics and a gorgeous design.

Court of the Dead: Mourners Call jsem pořídil po delším sledování KS kampaně a následných recenzích a určitě toho nelituji. Gameplay se na první pohled může zdát dost složitý, (když otevřete pravidla a vidíte 8 různý možností které můžete udělat) ale opak je pravdou, po první hře si většinu tahů rychle osvojíte a hra potom rychle odsýpá. Ač by se na začátku mohlo zdát, nejedná se o klasickou area control hru.

Mechaniky jsou vyvážené a k vítězství se dá dopracovat vícero způsoby. Propracování a design mě u této hry zaujalo jako první (vlastním např. Bloodrage, Rising sun, ale zpracování Court of the Dead je o třídu výš) krásně namalované karty a pestrá deska, která v reálu vypadá ještě líp, než na promofotkách.

Jako mínus bych uvedl někdy až rychlý konec hry. Při hře ve třech hráčích skončíte někdy na konci druhého nebo na začátku třetího kola, což je trochu škoda, protože v tu dobu začínáte mít dost herních komponentů k tomu, abyste to pořádně rozjeli. Tento problém se dá lehce vyřešit přidáním "žetonů jednoty", které herní dobu prodlouží. Ještě jedna vada je, že hra v základu je pro 2-4 hráče. Pro komponenty pátého hráče musíte pořídit KS edici této hry.

Abych to shrnul: Hra je velice svižná a rychlá. Disponuje zajímavými mechanizmy a nádherným designem.
