Společenstvo Gwintu is celebrating its 1st birthday, do you know it yet?

Společenstvo Gwintu z.s. is the hub for all fans of The Witcher. Its goal is to be a unified place for information and meetups for everyone who loves this world. It was established in 2023 from the original Gwint klub, which has roots dating back to 2016. Together with Společenstvo Gwintu z.s., the organizing team Con Morhen was formed, and they work closely together to host Witcher festivals.

The heart of the entire community is the game Gwent, which was first introduced to Witcher fans in the Witcher 3 PC game as a minigame, around which the Czech Witcher community formed in 2016. The SG association now enriches the game with community development for its members under the name SG Gwent. Members and fans meet regularly to share their interest in the Witcher world and their passion for the card game.

How to play Gwent and its new face

Two players always face off against each other. Each chooses 1 faction and plays with a deck in a game consisting of up to 3 rounds. Players take turns playing cards into combat rows until one passes or runs out of cards. The one with more points wins the round. The game is played as a best-of-three, which allows for sophisticated strategies. You can use tactics when choosing your deck, but the most important part is how you build it. This applies to both versions of Gwent.

In The Witcher 3, Gwent is more of a collectible game. Geralt of Rivia starts with only a few weak cards and gradually gains new and better ones throughout the game. Eventually, you reach a point where the starting cards are useless and your deck always looks the same. That is not an attractive state for a competitive card game. It lacks depth, variety, and planning…

That is why SG Gwent was born.

Balanced existing cards and factions, new innovative abilities and cards, the possibility of tactical preparation before the fight, and flexibility during the match – this is what this version of Gwent brings.

The association also promises further development and support for the game for its members in the coming years. This summer, they are releasing version v2.2, which also brings a new faction – Witchers. A test version of the Witcher deck was already available to try at the Con Morhen: Cursed Hearts festival, and thanks to that, we know there is definitely something to look forward to!

Clubhouses and where to play SG Gwent

The association runs clubhouses all over the Czech Republic. Currently, there are 11 clubhouses where you can play SG Gwent. Membership in the association is voluntary, so just show up at a meetup and try the game with other fans of this world. Each clubhouse has club decks available, managed by the leaders, which they can lend you during the meetup.

If the nearest clubhouse is a bit too far, you can print the cards yourself or ask Společenstvo Gwintu to arrange printing and delivery. Once you have the cards in hand, just read the rules, which fit on 5 cards, and you can dive straight into devising strategies and enthusiastic play.

If playing at home or in a clubhouse is no longer enough, there is Karbanec – the national championship in SG Gwent, with the finals held at the Con Morhen festival, where you have the chance to face finalists from all the clubhouses. The condition is that you must first win a "qualifying" round in one of the clubhouses to become that clubhouse's champion.

Besides Karbanec, there are other smaller tournaments and events where you can play SG Gwent; just keep an eye on what is happening.

Calculator, accessories, and collectible cards

If you have experience with Gwent in The Witcher 3, you know there are many effects that mathematically adjust the points on the cards. Adding and multiplying might not be a big problem, but honestly, who wants to do that all game and still keep track of how many points each card adds?

Společenstvo Gwintu came up with a solution in the form of a calculator where you see the points immediately after all effects are evaluated; you just need to enter them into the virtual field. Don't worry, you don't need to buy any special device, just download the SG Gwent app, which is currently available for Android devices, and you can play. Soon, the calculator should also be online directly on the sgwint.cz website.

In addition, the association is preparing various gaming accessories with its partners – pouches and card sleeves, playmats, and other accessories to improve the gaming experience.

Last but not least, this version also has its own collectible cards – exclusive versions of existing cards. The Czech community has countless talented and wonderful cosplayers (fans portraying characters from this world). And that is why you can also get unique versions of game cards featuring these cosplayers! Each collectible has different acquisition conditions, and each one is truly beautiful. Community center and information

The association runs its website sgwint.cz, where, in addition to all the information, you will find a list of local activities, groups, events, and everything Witcher-related happening here!

The Společenstvo Gwintu community is active on many social networks. You can find them on FB and IG. You can connect with other members and fans here and discuss whatever comes to mind. You can even get involved in the development of SG Gwent itself!
