How to Start Painting Miniatures: Part 2
Are you planning to paint a massive Warhammer army or all the miniatures from your board games? Or do you just want to dive into miniature painting full-on?
What do you find in the article?
Do you have a massive Warhammer army (or two) at home that desperately needs painting? Have you finally decided to paint all your board game miniatures? Or do you just know you'll love painting figures and want to dive in headfirst? In that case, there's no point in investing in minimalist gear or a beginner's set.
So, what should I get?
The basic equipment for painting miniatures remains the same. You'll still need paints, primers, and brushes. The difference lies in the products and sets you'll use. While a brush-on primer is enough for one or two figures, for a large army of Space Marines, you'll want a spray primer, which will save you a ton of time.
We also need to change how we choose paint sets. A starter set with basic colors and shades might have been enough for one board game. But if you're painting a dwarf and orc army, you'll quickly realize you need a mountain of different colors. A large paint set will be much cheaper in that case than buying paints individually.
This set from Army Painter offers 50 colors, including washes and metallic paints. Plus, you'll find a brush and a guide full of painting tips inside.
Is there more?
It all depends on you and your plans. For various painting techniques, you'll definitely find a larger brush set useful. You'll also appreciate a wet palette, which keeps your paints from drying out, and a painting handle to save your wrists.
For easier paint management, use a paint rack, and for extra comfort, a special water pot. There are simply plenty of options that will save you time, effort, or just make your work easier.
But how do you put it all together? And what should you watch out for? Check out our quick video summary.
