A fully cooperative game (with the expansion, you can play as the Alien Queen for a semi-cooperative experience) that closely mirrors the events of the movie Aliens (1986). The atmosphere and theme are the main draws here—you'll find iconic characters, their classic lines, and cards featuring stills directly from the film. You can play individual missions (like Bug Hunts) or a full campaign where you must complete a series of 3 missions (up to 5 with the expansion)—from rescuing Newt and escaping the alien nest in the APC to the final takeoff from the planet. The game features a very interesting deck management mechanic where all players share a common deck. You have to be careful not to deplete it entirely and ensure someone is replenishing it. This deck simulates the stamina and energy of the heroes, who grow weaker and more exhausted after fighting off wave after wave of aliens (and you know they just keep coming!). WARNING: It is important to note that the game DOES NOT come with pre-assembled hero and alien miniatures. You have to cut them out and glue them together yourself. They are plastic, and an alien, for example, consists of: a head, 2 body parts, 2 arms, a base, and a tail (which is a real pain to glue on). That's 7 parts per figure. With 16 aliens and 7 soldiers (6 + Newt), you'll need some basic equipment (nippers, plastic glue/super glue, a file) and a few hours of time to get them ready for the table (it took me about 6 hours to assemble them all). However, I think it's worth it because the miniatures are highly detailed. Those who enjoy painting will be even more thrilled (plus, you can make each alien look a bit unique). The game also takes up quite a bit of table space (see my photo), so keep that in mind.

All in all, the game looks very solid, and I think it could become one of the best movie-based board games ever made. PS: I recommend watching the movie—if you don't enjoy the film, I don't think the game will grab you as much.

Plně kooperativní hra (v rozšíření možno hrát za Alien Queen a udělat to semi-cooperative), která výrazně kopíruje dění ve filmu Aliens (2. díl). Atmosféra a téma je hlavním tahákem této hry - ve hře najdete ikonické postavy, jejich hlášky, karty s obrázky přímo z filmu... Hru je možno hrát jen tak (různé mise, Bug Hunts - lovení vetřelců apod.) anebo jako kampaň, kde hráč(i) musí dokončit a dohrát sérii 3 Misí (s rozšířením až 5) - od zachránění holčičky Newt, přes útěk z hnízda vetřelců do APC vozidla až po samotný odlet z planety.. Ve hře je velmi zajímavá mechanika Deck managementu, kdy všichni hráči společně utrácejí karty ze společného balíku a musí dát pozor, aby ho úplně nevyčerpali, případně aby ho někdo z hráčů průběžně doplňoval. Tento balík pak simuluje výdrž a energii hrdinů, kteří jsou po únavném zabíjení vetřelců více a více oslabeni a unaveni ( a vědí, že vetřelce prostě nejde zastavit.. They just keep coming!) POZOR: Je důležité upozornit, že hra NEOBSAHUJE složené miniatury hrdinů a vetřelců - tyto miniatury si musíte vystříhat a slepit: vše je to plast a vetřelec se např. skládá z: hlava, 2 části těla, 2 ruce, podstavec, ocas (který je teda dost pain přilepovat..) - tzn. dohromady 7 částí slepit na jednu figurku.. Alienů je 16, vojáků 7 (6 + Newt) takže je dobré vědět, že je potřeba mít nějaké základní vybavení (kleštičky, lepidlo na plast. figurky / vteřiňák, pilník) + pár hodin času to všecko slepit, než to bude možno dát na stůl (mně to zabralo slepit asi cca 6 hodin). Myslím ale, že je to tzv. worth it, protože miniatury jsou velmi detailní a ti, kteří si je rádi namalují, budou nadšeni ještě více (+ si můžete udělat každého aliena trošku odlišně). Hra také zabere celkem hodně místa na stole (viz můj obrázek), takže s tím je také dobré počítat.

All in all ale hra vypadá velmi solidně a myslím, že se může stát jednou z nejlepších her, které byly udělány dle filmové předlohy. PS: Doporučuji shlédnout film - pokud vás film nebaví, nemyslím si, že vás hra tolik zaujme...

The game perfectly captures the cinematic moments and atmosphere of the Aliens movie on the tabletop. The miniatures are highly detailed. The game mechanics are very simple; I recommend learning as you go during the first scenario.

Every character in the game has unique stats and abilities. Action results depend heavily on these, as well as on luck, which of course almost always works against you. New enemies constantly appear (often at the worst possible moment), and effective resource management is a crucial element. Using characters who don't have the best odds of success will start depleting your supplies dangerously early, even in the first mission...

If you're a fan of survival games and love the Aliens movie, don't hesitate to buy it!

HOWEVER, I'm taking off one star for the following:
- The rules are not written very clearly. You often have to resort to "this makes sense to me this way." The FAQ on the Gale Force Nine website has 37 sections across 6 pages just to clarify the rules...
- The rules are unfairly balanced for 1-2 players. Ideally, you need 3 or more players if you want to play strictly by the rules. For solo or two-player games, I recommend using house rules to increase the number of hero characters in play. Playing a game where you have almost zero chance of survival in the first mission just because you don't have enough teammates isn't fun for anyone...
- The miniatures consist of 137 parts to glue together. That doesn't quite match the manufacturer's definition of "some assembly required"... Cutting and gluing the miniatures from the sprues will take a few hours of your life.

If you don't have basic modeling tools, I recommend buying plastic nippers and super glue along with the game; it will save you a lot of time and nerves.

Hra skvěle přenáší filmové momenty a atmosféru filmu Aliens na herní desku. Miniatury jsou velmi detailně zpracované. Herní mechanika je velmi jednoduchá, doporučuji se hru učit za pochodu na prvním herním scénáři.

Ve hře má každá postava unikátní statistiky a vlastnosti. Výsledky akcí hodně závisí jak na nich, tak na náhodě, která samozřejmě téměř vždy jde proti vám. Ve hře se neustále objevují noví nepřátelé (často v tom nejméně vhodném momentu) a velice důležitým prvkem efektivní správa zdrojů. Užití postav, co nemají nejvyšší šance úspěchu v akcích vám začne nebezpečně tenčit zásoby už v první misi...

Pokud fandíte survival hrám a máte rádi film Aliens, tak s koupí neváhejte!

ALE ubírám jednu hvězdu za následující:
- Nepříliš jasně psaná pravidla. Často se musíte uchýlit k "dle mě to dává smysl takhle". FAQ na stránkách Gale Force Nine má 37 sekcí na 6 stranách týkajících se upřesnění pravidel...
- Nesmyslná neférovost pravidel při hře 1-2 hráčů. Chce to ideálně 3 a více hráčů, pokud chcete hrát přesně podle pravidel. Pro sólo hru, či hru ve dvou doporučuji si zavést house rule s navýšením počtu postav hrdinů ve hře. Hrát hru, kde máte mizivé šance na přežití už v první misi jenom protože nemáte dost spoluhráčů nebaví nikoho...
- Miniatury o celkem 137 dílech ke slepení. To úplně neodpovídá definici výrobce "some assembly required"... Vystřihání a slepení miniatur z rámečků vám pár hodin života sebere.

Pokud nemáte nějakou základní modelářskou výbavu, doporučuji rovnou se hrou přikoupit kleště na plast a super glue, dost vám to ušetří čas a nervy.

Aliens are a personal favorite, which I confirmed by picking up this revised edition. On the left is the 2020 version, and on the right is the new 2023 release.
The main changes are in the rebalanced rules, which now have four extra pages and include a link to a website where you can learn the game faster. There are also changes to some of the cards. The box itself is slightly sturdier, brighter, and has a better overall look with the new logo. The paper quality is much higher than in the previous version, as is the print color.
Other changes include sharper and bluer images on the cards, darker card backs, and the game boards also lean more towards blue.
The miniatures are still good; the Aliens have an excellent sheen even without painting, though you won't escape some hobby work. It's not much, but that's fine. There are only sixteen Aliens in the base game, so this will bolster your ranks. You also get the remaining two sentry guns along with a second counter. Plus, this entire game is compatible with AvP - The Hunt Begins, and many parts can be used to enhance your environment.
For some Aliens lovers, it might not be much, but for others, it's still good. As a collector, modeler, and huge fan, I recommend it. Hopefully, new versions of the remaining two expansions will be released. Also, keep an eye out for the upcoming We're in the Pipe, Five by Five.

Vetřelci jsou srdcovka, kterou jsem si potvrdil při zakoupení tohoto opraveného vydání, vlevo je verze z roku 2020, vpravo je ono nové vydání 2023.
Hlavní změny jsou v nově vybalancovaných pravidlech, ty mají o čtyři strany navíc a také už odkazují na web, kde se hru rychleji naučíte, také jsou změny na některých kartách. Samotná krabice je o něco pevnější, světlejší a celkově má nepatrně lepší vzhled s novým logem, papír je mnohem kvalitnější než v předchozí verzi a stejně tak barva tisku.
Další změny jsou v ostřejších i modřejších obrázcích na kartách, zadní strany jsou o něco tmavší a hrací plochy jdou též více do modra.
Figurky jsou stále dobré, Alieni mají výborný lesk i bez nabarvení, modelařina vás však opět nemine. Není toho mnoho, ale nevadí, Vetřelců je v základní hře jen šestnáct, tímto doplníte řady a také máte k dispozici zbylé dvě střelecké věže i s druhým počítadlem, navíc, celá tato hra je kompatibilní s AvP - The Hunt Begins a mnoho částí lze použít na vylepšení prostředí.
Pro některé milovníky Aliens nic moc, pro jiné stále dobré, jako sběratel, modelář, i velký fanoušek doporučuji a snad vyjdou nové verze i zbylých dvou rozšíření, také je tu blížící se We`re in the Pipe, Five by Five, tak buďte na pozoru.

I'm a huge fan of the Alien universe and I've been looking forward to this game since I first heard about it. It didn't disappoint at all; naturally, I need to buy all the expansions to complete my collection.

Som velky fanúšik alines univerza a na túto hru som sa tešil od kedy som zistil že existuje. Vôbec ma nesklamala, samozrejme musím dokúpit ešte vsetky rozšírenia aby som ju mal komplet.
