Thought begets heresy. Heresy begets retribution. The Inquisition moves among the people like a vengeful shadow, crushing all enemies of humanity with uncompromising ruthlessness. Inquisitor Eisenhorn seeks to recover a mysterious text of unimaginable power—an ancient book known as the Necroteuch—while facing a massive intergalactic conspiracy and the dark power of daemons.
The first book in the Eisenhorn trilogy.

The entire Eisenhorn inquisitor trilogy is fantastic; I didn't find a single book to be weaker or less gripping than the others.
I definitely recommend reading all three in one go and then jumping straight into the new Bequin trilogy (the first book is already out, the second one drops in May 2022).

A very solid piece describing the work of the Emperor's most holy Inquisition.
The book is a great read, especially thanks to the action-packed sequences interspersed with investigations. You could say it's a mix of detective fiction and action sci-fi. I quickly grew fond of Eisenhorn himself, as well as the other characters in his retinue, who are well-written and have interesting personalities—so much so that I found myself worrying about them during the plot twists (and there are plenty of them).
The book gradually escalates from investigating a single cultist to a conspiracy spanning the entire sector... not to mention the epic finale, where you realize this was likely just a prelude to something much bigger. With some 40K books, I've occasionally had issues with the Czech translation, but that's not the case here; I think the translation is excellent.
As a 40K book, I give it a solid 95% and hope that Malleus, which I'm diving into immediately, keeps the bar just as high.

I'm a fan of both the W40k universe and fantasy. The Horus Heresy was great, the Ragnar saga too, but this one didn't really do it for me. It's well-written, but the plot didn't grab me. Maybe it's because I don't sympathize with the Imperial Inquisition at all, but that's just my subjective take.
