We've also sewn a practical accessory for your linen bag – a linen pouch with a carabiner on a string. Since the bag itself has no closure, you can store all your valuables in the linen pouch to keep them safe from pickpockets. What is Furoshiki?

Furoshiki is essentially a square scarf. It got its name in 16th-century Japan. At that time, public baths became popular, and both Shinto and Buddhist traditions of purity took on both spiritual and physical forms. Samurai and nobles visiting the baths were used to piling their kimonos and other belongings together and tying them into a square silk scarf bearing their family crest. This made it very easy to identify their bundle, and they could carry it easily while keeping it in sight.

Furoshiki has come a long way since then. Today, it is one of the most sacred and ingenious customs in Japan, and like most Japanese everyday objects, it combines a beautiful aesthetic experience with practicality.

But the use of Furoshiki doesn't end with gift wrapping! You can also turn a Furoshiki into a protective book cover, a practical tote bag or handbag, an improvised backpack for shopping, or a fashion accessory in the form of a scarf.
