Not all contrasts are created equal.
This is where comparing the Vallejo Xpress range and Citadel Contrast paints really makes sense.

Contrast paints, while very useful, are quite inconsistent in their finish. What do I mean by that? You could split these types of paints into two imaginary categories. The first are very saturated and opaque, making them best suited as a one-thick-coat solution over a light primer (which is their official intended use).
The second category consists of transparent paints, which are better for glazing and adding color to pre-shaded surfaces.

While you might not be sure which category a Contrast paint falls into at first glance, the Xpress range is very consistently in the second category (the more transparent paints). Plus, Vallejo paints have a matte finish once dry, which suits my needs perfectly.
I should also point out that the Xpress range now includes a sub-category called Intense colors. These, on the other hand, fit into the first category (the one-thick-coat solution paints).

TL;DR: Vallejo Xpress paints have a very consistent matte and transparent finish across the entire range (with the exception of the Intense sub-category).

Zde se nejvíce nabízí srovnání Vallejo Xpress řady a Citadel Contrast barev.

Contrast, ačkoliv velmi užitečný, je poměrně nekonzistentní svým finišem. Co tím myslím? Barvy tohoto typu bychom mohli rozdělit do pomyslných dvou kategorií. První jsou velmi syté a neprůhledné a nejvíce se hodí jako one-thick-coat solution přes světlý primer. (ostatně toto je jejich oficiální použití)
Druhá kategorie jsou transparentní barvy, které se více hodí na glazing a přidávání barvy na pre-shadnuté povrchy.

Zatímco u Contrast barev si na první pohled nemusíme být jistí do které z těchto kategorií patří – Xpress řada je velmi konzistentně v druhé kategorii (transparentnějších barev). Vallejo barvy mají navíc po zaschnutí matný vzhled, což opět vyhovuje mým potřebám.
Ještě bych rád podotknul, že Xpress řada nyní obsahuje i podkategorii takzvaných Intense barev. Tyto naopak zapadají do první kategorie (one-thick-coat solution barev)

TLDR: Vallejo Xpress barvy mají napříč celou řadou velmi konzistentní matný a transparentní finiš. (výjimku tvoří podkategorie Intense barev)

If you're used to Citadel Contrast, Vallejo Xpress is a different beast. They have higher coverage and require more thinning than Citadel Contrast.

Pokud jste zvyklí na contrast od citadel, tak xpres od Valejjo je něco jiného. Jsou více krycí pokud, musí se více ředit než citadel contrast.

The Xpress Color Velvet Red is used on the model for the mouth cavity, including the tongue. It's a really nice color, but I'd emphasize the 'velvet' part of the name; without thinning (used 1:1 on the model), it essentially covered the base without showing any details. It works great when thinned.

Xpresní barva Velvet red je na modelu použita na dutinu ústní včetně jazyka. Opravdu pěkná barva, z názvu sametová bych zdůraznil, protože bez naředění (na modelu 1:1) to v podstatě překryla podklad bez vyrýsování jekýchkoli detailů. Při naředění funguje skvěle.
