The Atlas expansion for Mare Nostrum adds a new section to the map (Hispania, Mauretania, Aquitania, and Atlantis), a playable faction (the light blue Atlanteans), and several new game variants. These include three expansions for "legendary" cities (Syracuse, Jerusalem, and Troy), bonus card decks, and quite powerful hero cards (along with their dark silver figures), or a duel between Carthage and Rome with NPC barbarians (brown figures) during the Punic Wars.
Now, 2-6 players can enjoy the game with the new rules (compared to 3-5 in the base game), and you can expect more significant, sudden twists. The rules suggest new map coverage options for fewer than the maximum number of players (Babylon - Greece - Egypt, or swapping Egypt for Atlantis for 4 players).
The content of the reference card remains the same, but the English version features richer colors and minor graphic improvements compared to the French one included in the base game.
The map's color scheme differs only slightly. Unfortunately, the color of the card stock edges for the hero cards differs quite significantly (see photo), so players can tell whether the next card in the deck is an original one or from the expansion (though, in my opinion, this doesn't significantly affect gameplay).
It is worth noting that the entire expansion fits into the original base game insert without any issues.

Rozšíření Atlas pro Mare Nostrum přidává další kus mapy (Hispánii, Mauritánii, Akvitánii a Atlantidu), hratelnou frakci (světle modré Atlanťany) a několik nových variant hry - tři rozšíření pro "legendární" města (Syrakusy, Jerusalém a Trója) - balíčky bonusových karet a poměrně velmi silné karty hrdinů (a s nimy spojené figurky tmavěstříbřité), či duel Kartága s Římem a NPC barbary (hnědé figurky) v Punských válkách.
Nyní tak hru s novými pravidly může hrát 2-6 hráčů (oproti 3-5 u základní) a může docházet k výraznějším náhlým zvratům. Pravidla navrhují nové možnosti krytí mapy pro méně než plný počet hráčů (Babylon - Řecko - Egypt, či výměna Egypta za Atlantidu pro 4 hráče).
Grafická podoba pomocné karty zůstala obsahově stejná, anglická varianta je ale oproti francouzské (má základní hra) sytějších barev a s drobnými grafickými vylepšeními.
Barevnost mapy se liší jen mírně. Barevnost ořízky kartonů s kartami hrdinů se bohužel liší poměrně razantně (viz foto), takže hráči mohou vidět jestli v balíčku je na řadě původní karta nebo karta z rozšíření (což ale hratelnost dle mého nijak výrazně nepoškozuje).
Je třeba vyzdvihnout, že celé rozšíření se bez potíží vejde do původního insertu základní hry.
