Description
Portuguese sailors officially discovered the island of Madeira in the early 15th century. Madeira (Portuguese for wood) refers to the dense forests that once made the island a wild, fertile landscape. This, combined with its strategic location in the Atlantic Ocean, made Madeira one of Portugal's most significant discoveries. The Portuguese used the island as a "laboratory" for what awaited their empire.
In Madeira, you adapt to the island's conditions, seek out the most fertile fields for farming, and find prime spots for harvesting the precious wood needed to build city structures and ships. Ships are essential for trading in foreign markets and participating in new voyages of discovery to unknown lands. You must carefully time your actions—some might be too early, while others risk being snatched by your opponents.
How successful will you be? Your efforts face threats from shortages of wheat and money, hunger, and piracy…
