Hurtgen: Hell’s Forest is a tactical simulation of a massive military campaign. Its 2,240 counters represent every unit that participated in the fighting—from Germany, the United States, Britain, and Belgium. The game features two historically accurate maps, reconstructed by the authors using German and American military maps from 1943–1944. They include all roads, railways, towns, and villages that formed the basis of the German defense, as well as various terrain types, including all rivers and ravines impassable to vehicles.

Hurtgen: Hell's Forest includes three main scenarios covering the major offensives in September, October, and November. It also features an introductory scenario where the 28th Infantry Division must fight its way through the forests to the dams on the Rour River.
