It's more of a nice-to-have for your own enjoyment and to customize your spaceship. Each player gets their own die matching their ship's color, so there's no need to pass a single die around the table. Again, a little something extra for the fans.

There are three extra dice here that don't have a standard use. The light blue one is for the hard-to-find Artful Dodger expansion (though you can replace it with a custom model you paint yourself, and print the cardboard board and engine card from BGG). You can use the red and white dice for house rules, where one player takes on the role of the Reavers or an Alliance cruiser.
