Dungeons & Dragons: Journeys Through The Radiant Citadel (Alt Cover)

We’ve got another D&D adventure set out now. Let’s start with the downsides. Real-world politics don’t belong in fantasy. What’s the point of fantasy if not to escape and take a break from the real world? Unfortunately, WotC has let the issues of American society (woke culture) bleed into this book more than ever before, which is a real shame. As for the technical side, I’m once again missing an index. Even the map was left out this time. On the plus side, it’s the usual standard. Nice illustrations and interesting ideas for a utopian world within the D&D multiverse. Building on that, there’s an effort to highlight mythology and fantasy from cultures other than the “classic” Euro-American one. So, the concept is nice, but the execution is unfortunately a disappointment. The book warns you in many places to play “politically correctly” and avoid fantasy stereotypes if possible. If you like diverse worlds and mythology outside our cultural sphere, I can recommend the book, but if you’re just starting with D&D, I’d look elsewhere for now.

Tak máme venku další sadu dobrodružství pro hráče DD. Začněme nejdříve zápory. Reálná politika do fantasy nepatří. K čemu pak fantasy máme, když ne k úniku a odpočinku od reálného světa? Bohužel WOTC problémy americké společnosti (woke culture) nechal promítnout do této knihy více jak kdy do jiné, což je bohužel na škodu. Co se technického zpracování týče, tak opět postrádám rejstřík. I mapa byla tentokrát vynechána. Cos se týče kladů, tak je to už taková klasika. Pěkné ilustrace, zajímavé nápady na utopický svět v DD multiversu. No a v návaznosti na to je to snaha vyzdvihnout mytologii a fantasy jiných kultur, než je ta „klasická“ euroamerická. Takže myšlenka pěkná, ale zpracování je bohužel zklamáním. V knize vás na mnoha místech upozorní, že je třeba hrát „politicky korektně“ a pokud možno se vyhnout fantasy stereotypům. Pokud máte rádi rozmanité světy mytologii mimo naší kulturní oblast, tak knihu doporučit můžu, pokud s DD začínáte, tak bych se podíval prozatím jinde.

After all the hype surrounding this book, I was a bit worried.
And I admit, even though the book focuses primarily on roleplay and world-building rather than combat, it’s a bullseye for me. Sure, I didn't like every world or adventure.
I recommend it if you want exotic one-shots set in interesting environments with often fun monsters and solid plots.

A přiznám se, že ač kniha je zaměřena primárně na roleplay a spíše svět než nabij, tak je to pro mě zásah do černého. Ano, ne každý svět nebo dobrodružství se mi líbilo.
Za mě doporučuji, poked chcete exotické one-shoty ze zajímavých prostředí s často zábavnými monstry a dobrými zápletkami.
