Wizards have finally brought something for beginners.
The whole set is a D&D preview; it contains the core mechanics without overwhelming you, so even a beginner can focus on the story while happily rolling dice and calculating attacks.
For me, the fifth edition is a return to the roots of D&D and storytelling (compared to the fourth edition), but it still supports combat with miniatures—in a more intimate atmosphere, which is actually a plus.
The advantage is that the pre-made adventures include lists of enemies, spells, and more. You don't need to spend an extra penny, and you can successfully play for several evenings before you decide to buy the Handbook and Monster Manual.

Konečně Wizardi přinesli i něco pro začátečníky.
Celý set je takové preview pro D&D, základní mechaniky obsahuje, ale nezahltí vším kolem, takže se i začátečník může soustředit na příběh a přitom vesele házet kostkou a počítat útoky atp.
Pátá edice je pro mě návrat ke kořenům D&D, k vyprávění (oproti edici čtvrté), ale zároveň podporuje i bitvy s miniaturami, sice spíše v komornější atmosféře, ale to je více k užitku.
Výhoda je že pro připravená dobrodružství jsou i vytvořené seznamy nepřátel, seznamy kouzel atp. není třeba utratit ani korunu navíc a dá se s tím úspěšně odehrát několi večerů, než se rozhodnente koupit Handbook a Monster Manuál.

Perfect for absolute beginners, includes pre-generated characters, a set of dice, and a quick, straightforward explanation of how to play. However, players already familiar with the genre will miss instructions on how to create their own character. Still, it includes a 5-chapter campaign that's ideal for your first few sessions.

Pre absolútneho začiatočníka ideálne, pred pripravené postavy, sada kociek a rýchle a priame vysvetlenie ako sa hra hrá a pekná sada kociek. Ale hráčom čo už sú zo žánrom oboznámený bude chýbať návod ako vytvoriť vlastnú postavu. Ale za to stále je tam kampaň s 5 kapitolami ideálne na prvých pár sedení.

A really well-prepared D&D starter set. Great graphics and simple rules. If you've never played an RPG before, I definitely recommend starting with this Starter Set. The price is excellent, considering the dice included in the set cost about the same when bought separately :)

Moc hezky připravený začátečnický set pro D&D. Hezká grafika, jednoduché pravidla. Pokud jste nikdy nehráli RPG, tak rozhodně doporučuju začít tímto Starter setem. Cena je výborná, protože už jen ty kostky co set obsahuje. stojí samostatně přibližně stejně :)

Great production quality. You can tell the graphic designers really put in the effort, right down to the paper choice. The paper is glossy and high-quality, so it holds up much better to frequent flipping than standard paper. The illustrations complement the text perfectly.
The dice included in the set aren't top-tier, but they are perfectly fine for a Starter Set.
As for the game itself, we're still getting ready to dive into it :)

Skvělé zpracování. Jde vidět, že si s tím grafici pěkně pohráli, včetně výběru papíru. Papír je lesklý a kvalitní, takže při častém listování tolik netrpí, jako klasický papír. Ilustrace hezky doplňují text.
Kostky přiložené v setu nejsou nijak extra kvalitní, nicméně plně dostačují pro Starter Set.
Co se týče samotné hry, tak na tu se zatím teprve chystáme :)

Great stuff! I got hooked on D&D through 'Krotitelé draků' and decided to give it a shot myself. I tried a mini-session with friends, and since they were thrilled, I immediately bought the Essentials Kit and we started playing.
Thanks to this combo, we're playing Lost Mine of Phandelver with our own characters, a DM screen, and a large map of the Sword Coast… it's just awesome… we're all beginners and I don't think we're missing anything. For me, it was a bit challenging to get the hang of the rules and the story at first; it took a lot of work to organize my notes, but I believe the result is worth it.
I try to show the rules to the players gradually so I don't overwhelm them, and they're starting to get the hang of it. Huge satisfaction. And as always, a seamless order through Imago.

Skvelá vec, D&D som prepadol prostredníctvom Krotiteľom drakov a tak som si povedal že to skúsim aj ja. S kamarátmi som skúsil jedno mini sedenie a keďže boli nadšení rovno som prikúpil aj essentials kit a začali sme hrať.
Vďaka tejto kombinacii hráme Straceny dul Phandelveru s vlastnými postavami, DM screenom a veľkou mapou Mecoveho pobrežia… proste pecka … sme všetci začiatočníci a myslím si že nám nič nechýba. Pre mna bolo náročnejšie vyznať sa na začiatok v pravidlách a v príbehu, dalo mi dosť práce spracovať si poznámky, ale verím že výsledok stojí za to.
Hracom sa snažím pravidla ukazovať postupne aby som ich nezahltil a začínajú sa chytať. Veľká spokojnosť. A cez Imago ako vždy bezproblémová objednávka.

When I opened the D&D 5th Edition Starter Set, I was incredibly excited to dive into the materials inside.
In this fairly large box, you'll find simplified rules, a pre-made adventure called "Lost Mine of Phandelver", several ready-to-play characters, and a set of dice.
It's definitely the right first step for beginners thinking about playing D&D. It's just a shame that this box doesn't include "something extra," like you get in the boxed version of its Czech equivalent - Dračí doupě II.

Když jsem otevíral startovní set páté edice D&D, tak jsem se neuvěřitelně těšil, až se dám do studia materiálů, které se zde nacházejí.
V této celkem velké krabici člověk nalezne zjednodušená pravidla, předpřipravené dobrodružství, jenž se zove "Lost Mine of Phandelver", několik hotových postav a sadu kostek.
Pro začátečníky to je rozhodně správný prvník krok, pokud uvažují o hraní D&D. Škoda jen, že se v této krabici nenachází i "něco navíc", tak jak je tomu například v krabicové verzi českého ekvivalentu - Dračí doupě II.

The perfect start to the current fifth edition of D&D.
The set includes simple rules for players, a brilliantly crafted adventure for beginner Game Masters, and if you already have experience with role-playing games, even in D&D, it provides a great guide to help you decide whether to invest in more complex rulebooks.
I played through the adventure as a player and later as a GM, and it literally got me hooked on the fifth edition. The English set contains almost everything you need, including pre-generated character sheets, though I would recommend getting each player their own set of dice.

V sadě jsou jednoduchá pravidla pro hráče, výborně propracované dobrodružství pro začínajcí game mastery, a pokud již máte zkušenosti s hraním na hrdiny třeba i v systému D&D, pak vám poskytne dobré vodítko pro rozhodnutí, zda investovat do komplexnějších příruček.
Dobrodružství jsem prošel jako hráč a následně i jako GM a doslova mě pro pátou edici nadchlo. Sada v angličtině obsahuje kromě tužky a gumy snad vše potřebné včetně návrhů herních postav, doporučil bych snad jen pořídit pro každého hráče vlastní sadu kostek.
