The phenomenon of contrast paints is slightly exaggerated, and the price is higher because it's a new release with heavy marketing support. On the other hand, when applied carefully and correctly, contrast paints can significantly speed up your work. They save time because you don't need to manually shade and highlight edges—the pigment settles primarily in the deeper recesses of the model.

The photo shows a comparison of the wood color applied over Ceramite White, Wraithbone, and Mechanicus Standard Grey, though the color would stand out even more on a textured base. The paint contains a relatively high amount of pigment, so it covers well in just one coat. I recommend thinning it slightly with Citadel Contrast/Lahmian Medium. If you follow up with a light drybrush, you can achieve a beautiful wood effect.

Fenomén kontrastních barev je mírně přehnaný, cena je vyšší, protože se jedná o novinku, která byla marketingově velmi podporována. Na druhou stranu při správné a pečlivé aplikaci dokáží kontrastky významně ulehčit práci. Jde o to, že šetřím čas = efekt se zasluhuje o to, že nemusím stínovat a zvýrazňovat hrany (pigment se usazuje hlavně v hlubších částech na modelu). Na fotce je možné porovnat barvu dřeva při aplikaci na Ceramite White, Wraithbone a Mechanicus Standard Grey, ale barva by mnohem více vynikla na texturovaném podkladě. Barva má relativně velké množství pigmentu, takže dobře kryje už v jedné vrstvě. Při aplikaci doporučuji mírně naředit Contrast/Lahmian médiem od Citadely. Když tuto barvu doplníme lehkým drybrushem, dá se docílit krásného efektu dřeva.

Contrast paints aren't quite the miracle they were hyped up to be. That doesn't mean they're bad, though. If you're into speed painting, they'll save you time. They work for standard painting too, and sometimes you can achieve interesting results, though that's more true for larger figures or surfaces.
Essentially, you're getting a dark brown paint and a black wash in one. You need to be careful when applying them; the "more is better" rule doesn't apply here, as too much paint makes the result way too dark. You can see a figure from Scythe in the photo.
I used the paint on the top frames and the deck, followed by a light dry-brush. I definitely don't regret buying them.

Barvy Contrast nejsou až takové zázraky jak se propagovali. To ale neznamená že by byly zase uplně špatné. Pokud někdo dělá rychlomalování, tak mu to ušetří čas. Ale vhodné je to i na klasické malování, někdy se s barvami docíli zajímavého výsledku, ale platí to spíše u větší figurek/ploch.
Defakto je zde tmavě hnědá barva a černý wash v jednom. Při nanášení musí být člověk opatrnej, zde neplatí "čím více, tím lépe" s větším množstím barvy je výsledek až moc tmavý. Na fotce je vidět figurka ze Scythe.
Barvou byly malovány vrchní rámy a paluba. Je tam pak mírný dry-brush. Koupě určitě nelituju.

If you want to paint miniatures but have nothing at home and are afraid you won't manage with regular paints... then forget it and don't paint. These paints won't make it any better.
If you want to paint, have nothing at home, and aren't afraid you won't manage, these paints are for you.
If you want to paint and also want to learn how to get better at it, these paints are not for you.

Why? Despite the claims, this isn't a self-contained miracle that will revolutionize miniature painting. If you follow the rules on which paint to apply when and use the right amount, the result looks very nice. The principle of the paint is similar to wash/shade paints. It tends to settle in the recesses, darkening those areas, while it tends to slide off the edges, leaving them very light.
The reality depends entirely on you, your brush skills, and the quality of the miniature. The more detailed the miniature, the better the result.
Personally, I would recommend sticking to classic paints and learning how to use your brush a bit better instead.

Okay, these paints make sense if you need to slap a bunch of miniatures together quickly and you know no one will have time to study the result too closely.

Pokud chcete malovat figurky a doma nemáte nic a bojíte se, že to s normálními barvami nezvládnete... tak se na to vyprdněte a nemalujte. S těmahle barvama to nebude o nic lepší.

Proč? Navzdory proklamě není toto samonosný zázrak, který provede revoluci v malování figurek. Pokud se člověk drží pravidel jakou barvu kdy nanést a nanese jí správné množství, výsledek vypadá moc pěkně. Princip barvy je podobný wash/shade barvám. Má tendenci se držet v záhybech a tak dané místo ztmavit a naopak na hranách má tendenci se nedržet a ztékat z ní, tedy výsledek je tam velmi světlý.
Realita je jen na vás, schopnostech se štětcem a kvalitě figurky. Čím členitější figurky, tím lepší výsledek.
Za sebe bych doporučil se raději držet klasických barev a naučit se štětec používat o něco lépe.

Dobře, barvy mají smysl, pokud potřebujete rychle nahňácat spoustu figurek najednou a víte, že výsledek nebude mít nikdo čas moc studovat.
