Video Game News Roundup: What’s Coming This Year and Next?
June brought a flood of gaming news. Check out our roundup of the most interesting titles that will soon take over your gaming PC or console.
June is the traditional month when even the biggest game studios unveil their upcoming titles. Years ago, this meant massive trade shows and gaming festivals, but thanks to COVID and other factors, most events have shifted online. While it might lack some of the old-school atmosphere, it gets the job done just as well.
Sony, Xbox, and Nintendo all held their own online showcases, joined by the PC scene, Summer Game Fest 2026, and the Future Games Show. And there was plenty to see! Here is a roundup of the games that caught my eye and that I can’t wait to have warming up my hard drive.
Alien: Isolation 2
We’ve been waiting 12 years for the announcement of a sequel to this amazing Alien horror game. I have the best memories of the first one (even though I spent most of my playtime hiding in a locker), so the sequel has climbed very high on my personal wishlist. No release date has been announced yet.
Metro 2039
Ukrainian studio 4A Games has unveiled the fifth installment in the Metro series, based on the books by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Metro 2039 immediately jumped to the top of the list of the best-looking games currently in development. Expect another dark, gritty struggle among the ruins of Moscow.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake
Some might be getting tired of constant remakes of old games. As if developers couldn't come up with anything new! But Capcom is playing it smart, and their remakes boldly compete with brand-new titles. That’s why I’m happy they’re continuing this trend. Next up is the slightly forgotten Code: Veronica, which fills in the story arc of the main series. The release is scheduled for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Marvel’s Wolverine
This isn't a brand-new announcement—we’ve heard about the game before—but we finally got more details. The game launches on September 15th of this year, and it was a surprise to me that it won't be a massive open-world game, but rather a more contained experience in the style of Uncharted and similar titles. And that makes me happy! Either way, it’s going to be a brutal 17+ experience.
The Blood of Dawnwalker
We’ve known about this vampire RPG from the creators of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 for a while now. Thanks to IGN, we finally got a look at the gameplay. The video showcases the core mechanics and combat. The Blood of Dawnwalker releases on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer
This racing title also got some new footage. I’m still not sure what to think of it. It could go either way. However, there’s something tempting about Star Wars racing, and I really hope it turns out well. We’ll know for sure on October 6, 2026.
gen ATLAS
Fumito Ueda has finally properly unveiled his new game! Who is Ueda? The creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. That’s obviously enough to send my hype meter through the roof! It’s going to be weird, it’s going to be beautiful, and it’s going to be an experience! We just don’t know the release date yet.
The Lost Wild
We love dinosaurs! Even though they usually try to eat us. Studio Annapurna Interactive has announced a survival action game where you’ll be fighting tooth and nail to avoid exactly that. And these aren't just mindless lizards, but clever hunters that won't give you anything for free. The Lost Wild is in development for PC and PlayStation 5, with a release expected in 2027.
ILL
In the same genre, the horror action game ILL is also in the works. You wake up from a coma in a hospital infested with monsters. Who hasn't experienced that before, right? :) Creators Maxim Verehin and Oleg Vdovenko drew inspiration for their horrific monsters primarily from classic 70s to 90s horror films, but they also acknowledge a significant influence from cult games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Half-Life 2. That doesn't sound bad at all! We’ll see the game sometime next year.
God of War Laufey
God of War without Kratos? Yes. God of War Laufey will be the next installment in the famous series, where we’ll leave Kratos to rest for now and step into the role of his late wife, Faye. Everything else will follow the tried-and-true recipe—action, blood, swords, axes, gods, and the occasional puzzle. But why not? It still tastes good!
Silent Hill: Townfall
I’m a proud fan of the Silent Hill series, and I’m not ashamed of it! That’s why I was thrilled to see the first footage from the upcoming Townfall. After the trip to Japan in the last installment, this time we’re heading to Scotland. Players take on the role of Simon Ordell, who is called back to the island of St. Amelia to “set things right.” That alone suggests it’s going to be a total disaster. :) At least for Simon. I just hope it’s a great game. It will be available starting September 24th of this year for PC and PlayStation 5.
I was genuinely surprised by how many interesting things were announced. Studios have hopefully finally realized that we don't all want to play live-service clones of Overwatch and its ilk. This roundup definitely didn't cover every game on my radar. That’s why I’d like to additionally mention Fable, the surprisingly promising new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Until Dawn 2, 1666: Amsterdam, the remake of the first Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, or the promising-looking smaller sci-fi title End of Abyss.
I honestly hope I’ll have time to play at least some of these. In the meantime, I’ll be happily lost in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI.
