Few titles in recent years have managed to spark as much hype as Solo Leveling. It turned from an obscure web novel into a global hit, from a webtoon into a legend, and from an anime into one of the most-watched titles. If you love action, dark atmosphere, RPG elements, and power fantasy, you probably already know this is exactly for you.
Let's take a closer look at Solo Leveling – from its origins and anime adaptation to mini-reviews of the first six volumes, brought to us in Czech by CREW publishing house.

What is Solo Leveling?
Solo Leveling originally started as a web novel written by author Chugong. The story's massive success led to a webtoon adaptation worked on by illustrator Jang Sung-rak from the Korean creative studio Redice Studio. His iconic art style is the reason Solo Leveling visually etched itself into the memories of readers worldwide.
The art uses contrasts, shadows, and bold colors, making every dungeon feel like a death trap and every boss like a genuine threat.
The story takes place in a world where gates to other dimensions filled with monsters are opening. Humanity is defended from destruction by so-called hunters, people with supernatural abilities. The main character, Sung Jin-Woo, is among the weakest of the weak, until something happens that changes the rules of the game forever.
Anime adaptation – A fan's dream come true
The anime premiered in 2024, and from the very first trailer, it was clear it would be a massive hit. Studio A-1 Pictures bet on a dark atmosphere, dynamic combat, and iconic moments known from the webtoon.

The anime faithfully follows the manhwa's plot and adds a powerful soundtrack that amplifies both the emotions and the action. High-quality voice actors also played a huge role in bringing the beloved characters to life.
Mini reviews
Volume 1 – The Weakest Hunter
A strong start that pulls you in immediately. We get introduced to the world of hunters and Jin-Woo, the worst hunter in the world. The double dungeon sets the tone for the entire series and makes it clear that death is real and no one is safe.
The feeling of helplessness is what makes the introduction such a powerful experience, even if the pacing might be slightly slower for action-oriented readers.
Volume 2 – Changing the Rules
A turning point for the series. Jin-Woo gains the ability to level up, which completely changes the story's dynamics. The quest and leveling system gives the narrative an addictive structure and a clear direction.
We follow his first tasks, his growth in strength, and most importantly, the hints that something dangerous is being born from the weakest hunter.
Volume 3 – Birth of a Predator
Jin-Woo is no longer a victim and is starting to become dangerous. Training, dungeons, and the first signs of respect from others. His growth isn't just physical, but mental as well.
At the same time, we see his gradual isolation – the stronger he gets, the more he drifts away from others. The action intensifies, and the art fully demonstrates why Solo Leveling is visual top-tier.
Volume 4 – First Signs of Respect
Guilds enter the game, along with strong hunters and politics. For the first time, we see how much Jin-Woo stands out among the others. He becomes a variable that everyone else must account for.
The series expands the world and shows that power has its consequences.
Volume 5 – Shadow Monarch
One of the most iconic volumes of the entire series. An army of shadows, dominance, and absolute control over the battlefield.
Jin-Woo is no longer just a hunter, but a threat. The realization hits that there is no turning back. This is the moment Solo Leveling definitively turns into a legend.
Volume 6 – The Price of Power
A darker tone, higher stakes, and a sense of impending catastrophe. The battles are epic, but every power has its price.
The story is darker, more mature, and emotionally heavier. It's clear that playtime is over.
How about a few more interesting facts?
- Solo Leveling has long been one of the most-read webtoons in the world.
- The leveling system resembles classic RPG games with stats, quests, and bosses.
- Sung Jin-Woo is considered one of the most iconic characters in modern manhwa.
- The series' popularity grew significantly even after the illustrator's death in 2022.
A few closing words
Solo Leveling isn't just about an extremely strong main character. The hero's gradual transformation—both physical and mental—plays a crucial role. It's a story about survival, growth, and a second chance.
Whether you're a fan of the webtoon, the anime, or you're just considering whether to dive into the series, one thing is certain – Solo Leveling deserves this hype.
