House of Hell – a gamebook that won't let you catch your breath

The timeless classic by Steve Jackson is back in a fresh coat of paint, and after many years, we can finally return to House of Hell. It is a place where the brave and strong discover new challenges, while the unworthy face endless helplessness.

House of Hell is a single-player adventure book. First published in 1984, it is part of the extensive Fighting Fantasy series. The book stands out for its dark atmosphere and horror vibe. You will appreciate the simple mechanics that are easy for any player to grasp.

In 2023, the Mytago publishing house released House of Hell in a hardcover edition. New editorial work polishes this treasure of gamebook history. They even added handy extras, like a map of House of Hell, to help players find their way around.

You don't have to be a horror fan to get easily sucked into the book's simple plot. You step into the shoes of an unfortunate soul whose broken-down car leaves you stranded. You spot an old house on the horizon. It looks abandoned at first glance, but the relentless rain easily convinces you that hiding inside is a pretty good idea.

Except it isn't.

As soon as your chilled body slips through the door, you find yourself in the clutches of hell itself. The way back is far from simple. If you don't go mad with fear first, you will face encounters with moving paintings, monsters, dark forces, and supernatural phenomena. After burning your fingers a few times, you will open every new door with the certainty that nothing good lies behind it. And usually, you're right.

House of Hell gamebook is perfect for beginners thanks to its straightforward rules. However, keep in mind that it doesn't give you anything for free. It is a true challenge!
