Dawn breaks just like any other day. The sun climbs over the misty horizon, hanging low in the autumn sky. Everything feels as routine as it gets on these steppe fields and meadows. First Lieutenant Otto Carius peers out from the turret of his Tiger, scanning the landscape. He looks left to right, then right to left, searching for targets. He takes a deep breath. The scent of metal, leather, sweat, and stale cigarettes drifts from the cramped tank interior. He studies the terrain and listens. With a pounding heart and heightened senses, he is full of anticipation. For Commander Carius, these battles are more than just a duel. The Tiger stands above rocket artillery, bombers, submarines, single-seat fighters, and even the 88mm Flak. Only the Red Army's T-34 tanks stand between his Tiger, his platoon, and victory!

Suddenly, startled geese fly up from the tall, dry steppe grass to his right, quickly vanishing from sight. Commander Carius snaps his gaze to the right, where his eyes meet an indistinct, silent, and ominous silhouette… a Soviet T-34! The crew inside his Tiger is on high alert, each man at his station in the cramped space. A report crackles over the radio: "I see them at 1600, 1600!" The driver tries to locate the T-34 through his narrow rectangular vision slit. Meanwhile, an armor-piercing shell is loaded into the chamber. The gunner shouts: "Ready to fire!" His heart is pounding just as hard. Suddenly, the noise erupts—the transmission, the rumble of road wheels over the terrain, the engine vibrations… and then, "Turret position, turret position," the driver receives the order, "Adjust traverse, adjust traverse… ADJUST TRAVERSE!" The turret rotates slowly, the gears grinding. It is slow, agonizingly slow! The alert gunner is fired up. "I have them in my sights, 1400… 1200! Do you see him, do you see him?" Panic, fear, and adrenaline are palpable. "I have them, Commander, I have them!" The tank moves forward, and the long-awaited command comes… "FIRE!" The gunner aims, pulls the trigger, and the shell leaves the barrel…
