Spad

Compared to the previous installments, this one felt the weakest at first, mainly due to the different pacing. While the first three books were frantic action with short, punchy paragraphs where something was always happening, this text is significantly more descriptive, wordier, and the sections are longer overall.

Still, it’s another readable story with plenty of twists, and in the second half, it really picks up speed again. The ending, in particular, has a much faster pace. Overall, you can see that the author simply masters the craft and knows how to steer their stories well so they don't drag on unnecessarily.

All things considered, after finishing it, I was quite grumpy that the series doesn't have a sequel.

Ve srovnání s předchozími díly mi tento přišel zpočátku nejslabší, zejména kvůli jinému tempu. Zatímco první tři díly byly zběsilá akce s krátkými údernými odstavci, ve kterých se neustále něco dělo, tady je text výrazně popisnější, rozvláčnější a textové úseky jsou celkově delší.

Přesto jde opět o čtivý příběh s řadou zvratů a ve druhé polovině už se to zase vyloženě pěkně sype. Zejména závěr knihy má pak tempo svižnější. Celkově je vidět, že autor prostě řemeslo ovládá a dokáže své příběhy dobře kočírovat, aby se zbytečně nerozplizly.

Vzato kolem a kolem, po dočtení jsem byl celkem mrzutý, že série nemá žádné pokračování.

A bit too naturalistic for my taste. I enjoyed the second half of the book more, and the story ended on a cliffhanger, so let's see how it continues...

Na mě tentokrát příliš naturalistické. Druhá polovina knihy mě bavila trochu více, příběh skončil v nejlepším, tak uvidíme, jak to bude pokračkovat...

I picked up SPAD as my holiday reading. It was my first book by František Kotleta and I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised.

First and foremost, it’s a light read – don’t expect any deep plot or anything overly sophisticated. You could actually say the plot is just the glue holding together a chain of action scenes and sequences.

Those are the book's main asset, or rather, the punchy style in which they are presented. Simple sentences, fragments, no unnecessary talk, no downtime. It just has pace :)

So, the sequel is already sitting on my shelf, and I’m curious to see if the author keeps churning out interesting post-apo ideas and references to the Czech environment that SPAD is packed with.

Pořídil jsem si SPAD jako dovolenkové čtení. Byla to moje první knížka od Františka Kotlety a musím přiznat, že jsem byl příjemně překvapen.

V prvé řadě je to oddechové čtení – nečekejte žádnou hlubší zápletku, nic extra sofistikovaného. Vlastmě by se dalo říct, že zápletka je tady jen jako tmel, který drží pohromadě řetěz akčních scén a výjevů.

Ty jsou ale hlavní devizou knihy, respektive úsporný styl, kterým jsou scény předkládány. Jednoduché věty, útržky, žádné zbytečné řeči, žádné prostoje. Prostě to má spád :)

Takže v knihovně si už hoví pokračování, jsem zvědav, jestli i ve zbylých dílech bude autor chrlit zajímavé postapo nápady a narážky na české prostředí, kterýmaje SPAD prošpikován.
