(The name John Doe is used in English-speaking countries to designate an unidentified person.) The film was the first major success for director David Fincher and remains widely cited and imitated to this day.

Eleven years after the film's premiere, an unusual project inspired by Se7en was born. Seven creative teams crafted seven stories based on the individual sins. The SE7DM project was coordinated by artist David Seidman and screenwriter Mike Kalvoda, who created several pages from John Doe's journals for each story. This formed a mosaic of tales that flesh out the world of the film Se7en, truly allowing the reader to get inside the head of the serial killer John Doe. You can follow his life, memories, and actions. The book SE7DM is not a comic book adaptation of the famous film, but an expansion of its themes.
