Ranger's Apprentice (hardcover)

This was a real page-turner and definitely one of the best books in the series. We highly recommend it – both I and my kids, who I read it with, had a blast.

Tohle bylo hodně napínavé čtení, určitě jeden z nejlepších dílů série, rozhodně doporučujeme – bavil jsem se jak já, tak naše děti, s nimiž jsem knihu četl.

A somewhat unconventional plot that felt a bit forced at times, but overall it's another well-written story. The author knows how to pace the action, keeps the chapters at a perfect length, and delivers a solid dramatic arc.

Poněkud netradiční zápletka, která možná až příliš šustila papírem, ale celkově je to zase pěkně napsaný příběh, autor umí pěkně dávkovat akci, udržovat příjemnou délku kapitol a má to nějaký dramatický oblouk...

A fun conclusion to the story from the previous installment, although it felt a bit predictable at times.

Zábavné zakončení příběhu z předchozího dílu, ačkoli příběh byl místy už trochu předvídatelný.

Straight from the desert into the cold – the first half of an epic tale that culminates in the next installment, The Siege of Macindaw. A fantastic part of the series, we really enjoyed it.

Z pouště rovnou do zimy – první polovina výpravného příběhu, který vyvrcholí dalším dílem – Obléhání Macindawu. Moc pěkná část série, opravdu nás bavila.

A chapter set in a desert atmosphere, definitely an interesting change. The story follows a classic structure, and in the end, the reader gets exactly what they expected – a solid dose of relaxing fantasy adventure.

Díl odehrávající se v pouštní atmosféře, určitě zajímavá změna. Dílko má klasickou stavbu, nakonec čtenář dostane přesně to, co očekával – poctivou porci oddechového fantasy dobrodružství.

This was a nice "stealth" installment of the series. The difficulty is just right, and the story will hook both kids and adult readers. I definitely recommend it.

Tohle byl pěkný "stealth" díl série, obtížnost je tak akorát příjemná, příběh zaujme jak děti, tak dospělého čtenáře. Určitě mohu doporučit.

This was a pretty heavy installment with a dark atmosphere, and it's not exactly children's fantasy, but we managed to get through it with the kids in the end...

Tohle byl docela těžký díl, má tíživou atmosféru a vlastně to není úplně dětská fantasy, ale nakonec jsme to s dětma zvládli...

The second installment of the series has a bit more "punch" than the first; it's a gripping, readable story and ranks among the better entries in the series.

Druhý díl série má o něco větší "grády" než první, je to čtivý napínavý příběh a řadí se k lepším dílům série.

A pleasant, relaxing read that we enjoyed with the kids. It starts off a bit slow, but the finale is gripping, and the author has a great, readable style. A nice book that serves as a perfect gateway into fantasy for younger readers.

Příjemná oddychovka, kterou jsme si četli s dětma. Začátek má trochu pozvolný rozjezd, ale finále je napínavé a celkově má autor pěkný čtivý styl. Pěkná kniha, která může posloužit jako vstupní brána do fantastiky pro mladší čtenáře.

I first read this on a recommendation back in 7th grade and devoured it in one sitting. The story is gripping and exciting. Years later, I bought it specifically to own this edition and read it to my kids (when I have them)... Now I have the first one and I can't wait to read it to her.

Četl jsem poprvé na doporučení asi v 7. třídě a četl jsem to jedním dechem. Příběh je zajímavý, napínavý. Po letech jsem si to pořídil, abych měl přesně tohle vydání a mohl ji číst dětem (až budu mít)... Teď už mám první a těším se, až jí to budu číst.
