Description
A traditional drink of the Paraguayan Indians made from the dried leaves of the Yerba Mate plant. The infusion is highly stimulating and stands out for its pleasantly bitter taste with a smoky aroma. You can get creative with Maté by mixing it into blends, sweetening it with sugar, or softening it with milk.

I love mate just for the way it's served. Be careful when drinking through the bombilla, though; it can easily scald you and leave nasty blisters since it's made of metal and conducts heat so well. Also, I recommend swapping sugar for a third of caramel—it's called "maté grande" and it's truly delicious.
