Short version: A must-have for every Forbidden Lands fan.

Long version: A ton of monsters, new random encounters, talents, and a heap of little things. Useful little things. For instance, every creature has its own legend, description, and a related random encounter. In other words, every monster is a quest in itself.
Two things stand out: first, every monster has a Lore table in addition to an attack table. Depending on the roll, the GM can provide players with specific information. Crucially, these are concrete facts that actually hint at how to deal with each monster. That was something the core rulebook was missing a bit.

Second: you can extract ingredients from every monster for various elixirs. This ties into the new Alchemist talent, which includes recipes for all sorts of potions, poisons, and healing elixirs. The Book of Beasts offers a long list that is a dream come true for any assassin, poisoner, or even a druid on a path of healing.

The book also introduces a list of ballads, grimoires, and books. Specific titles with authors and brief summaries, and each publication has a real purpose for the player. They no longer serve just as treasure, but as a source of learning. If you meet the conditions, they allow you to increase your skill, talent, or magic level.

Other additions include weather mechanics and a table of atmospheric flavor text (depending on the terrain), which is nice, though it is in English.

And then there are the official rules for solo play. Based on my experience so far, they work great, and I have no complaints.

Krátka verzia: Must have pre každého fanúšika Zapovězených zemí.

Dlhšia verzia: Hromada príšer, nové náhodné stretnutia, talenty a kopa maličkostí. Užitočných maličkostí. Tak napríklad, každý netvor má vlastnú legendu, opis a s ním súvisiace náhodné stretnutie. Inak povedané, čo netvor, to samostatný quest.
Vyzdvihnúť treba aj dve veci: prvá - každý netvor má okrem tabuľky útokov pridelenú aj tabuľku na hod na Príbehy (Lore). V závislosti od úspechu môže GM poskytnúť hráčom konkrétnu informáciu. Podstatné je, že ide o konkrétne fakty, ktoré reálne napovedajú, ako sa s tým ktorým netvorom vysporiadať. To v základne príručke trochu chýbalo.

Druhá: z každého netvora sa dá vyextrahovať surovina na nejaký elixír. To súvisí s novým talentom Alchymistu, ktorý v príručke nájde recepty na všakovaké nápoje, jedy, či ozdravné elixíry. Book of Beast ponúka dlhý zoznam, ktorý je snom každého vraha, traviča a ktovie, hoc´ aj druida na ceste liečenia.

Príručka tiež predstavuje zoznam balád, grimoárov a kníh. Konkrétnch titulov, s autorom i stručným obsahom, a každá publikácia má aj svoj význam pre hráča. Už neslúžia len ako poklad, ale aj ako žriedlo učenia sa. Umožňujú totiž pri splnení podmienok dvihnúť si úroveň dovednosti, talentu, či mágie.

Medzi maličkosti patrí aj mechanika počasia, tabuľka atmosféru navodzujúcich textov (v závislosti od terénu), čo je fajn, ale v angličtine.

No a potom sú tu oficiálne pravidlá pre solo hranie. Z doterajšej skúsenosti funkčné, nemám im čo vytknúť.
