The main protagonist is Light Yagami, a Japanese student who discovers a black notebook in his schoolyard. This Death Note allows the user to kill anyone on Earth simply by writing their name while picturing their face. Light decides to use the notebook to rid the world of evil and starts eliminating dangerous criminals.
His primary adversary is a mysterious man known as "L", who holds the reputation of being the greatest detective of all time.
