Description
- functional ring sundial
- replica of a Baroque ring
- leather cord included
This bronze necklace pendant is a functional replica of a ring sundial from the Baroque period. The historical original dates back to 1721 and was crafted by Prussian monks.
The outer side of the ring features the engraved letters: J F M A M J - J A S O N D. These represent the months of the year (from German: Januar, Februar, März, April, Mai, Juni, Juli, August, September, October, November, Dezember). The inner side features engraved hour markings.
Ring dimensions:
3 x 2.3 x 1 cm
How to use the sundial?
First, adjust the setting ring to the current month to account for the sun's changing position throughout the year. Align the hole through which the sunlight passes with the mark for the current month. To tell the time, hang the sundial freely on the leather cord so that the spot of light falls onto the numbers on the inner ring.
This ring sundial is calibrated for standard (winter) time. During summer, you need to add one hour.
