Alejandro Jodorowsky

Alejandro Jodorowsky—poet, playwright, novelist, puppeteer, mime, dancer, theater and film director, screenwriter, comic book author, psychotherapist, mystic, philosopher, and tarot reader—was born in 1929 in Chile to Jewish immigrants from Ukraine. In 1953, he moved to France, where he immersed himself in the cultural scene and first made his mark as a screenwriter and collaborator with the legendary mime Marcel Marceau. During the 1960s, while working primarily in Mexico, he established himself as an avant-garde theater director and later gained attention for his experimental films Fando y Lis, El Topo, and the cult classic The Holy Mountain. After returning to France, he became famous as the author of the science-fiction comic series The Incal, as a tarot reader, and as the creator of a unique psychotherapeutic practice he calls Psychomagic. His bibliography now spans over a hundred titles and has been translated worldwide.
