According to the myths, it was forged from the heart of a dying star by two dwarves, Brokkr and his brother Sindri. Small amulets shaped like Thor's hammer are often found in Nordic countries, where they were worn as ornaments, particularly by Vikings.

According to mythology, Thor's hammer possesses several wondrous properties. It is unbreakable, always hits its target, and then returns to its owner's hand. It could also shrink at any time so the god could hide it under his tunic. The hammer is also incredibly heavy, so only Thor and his son Magni can lift it, and even then, they require magical gloves and a belt to do so.
