The Spires

In the ancient beginnings of this world, several Spires were erected by a civilization that had long traveled between the stars and expanded its influence. Back then, the Spires existed only as research laboratories and bases for settlers.

The settlers never arrived. Instead, refugees and fugitives arrived, fleeing a horror that none of the Spire inhabitants will speak of to this day. In the final wave, the nobility of this race arrived among the refugees and quickly sealed the path behind them. Now, this race, known as the Exiles, is trying to rebuild the splendor and sophistication of the past. Using science, they create new life and twist living beings to better serve their purposes. A struggle for influence rages throughout their fractured society between the nobles, the Directorate, and the newly rising merchant Princes.

No ethical or moral constraints limit their tactics and approach to the world - efficiency must be the pinnacle of everything. Only through perfect efficiency can they hope to return to the stars.
