Materials for costumes and other clothing

Below you will find detailed descriptions of the materials we use in our workshop to create costumes and other types of clothing.

Cotton

Cotton has good tensile and abrasion strength. Garments made from cotton canvas are pleasant to the touch and can absorb a significant amount of moisture. However, cotton wrinkles relatively easily and may pill over time.

  • Thin cotton - classic cotton canvas. Wash at 40°C, iron on the "cotton" setting (two dots). It is best to hand-wash multi-colored costumes initially to prevent colors from bleeding.
  • Heavy canvas - 100% cotton with a higher weight (490g/m2). We use heavy canvas with a waterproof finish for some products (e.g., the Almatir waterproof bag).
  • Twill - a thicker cotton canvas that wrinkles less and is maintained the same way as thin cotton. Thanks to its diagonal weave, it is exceptionally durable.
  • Duvetine - a thicker, wrinkle-resistant cotton fabric (suede imitation). Maintain it the same way as thin cotton and iron on the reverse side.

Organic Cotton - Knit

Knit fabric made from 100% organic cotton is very comfortable to wear. Organic cotton is hand-picked and grown without the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemical agents. Organic cotton is suitable not only for allergy sufferers and babies but also for those who prefer to buy environmentally friendly products.

Our supplier is MORAVIATEX pletárna s.r.o., which uses yarn with a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certificate to produce the knit.

Maintenance is similar to most knits: wash at 40°C, iron at 150°C, do not tumble dry, wash and dry inside out, and do not bleach.

We use this cotton knit in our workshop to produce our original hoodies and other clothing. The fabric weight is 210 - 220 g.

Scuba

Scuba is a unique material that resembles brushed leather in appearance. The fabric is soft to the touch like velvet and has all the properties of a knit—it stretches, drapes well, and is flexible. It comes in various weights, which determine the thickness and intended use of the material.

In our workshop, we use a composition of 95% polyester and 5% elastane. Thanks to the 5% elastane content, the fabric has minimal stretch, making it perfect for our LARP and cosplay clothing. You can also use this scuba to sew spring and autumn coats, skirts, jackets, or suits. Scuba fabric has many useful properties—it holds its shape perfectly, is wrinkle-resistant, and does not require edge finishing.

Maintenance: wash at 30°C, iron up to 110°C, do not tumble dry, wash and dry inside out, do not bleach.

Linen

The history of linen fabric dates back to ancient Egypt according to some sources. In the Middle Ages, linen was reserved primarily for the poorer classes and was often called the "material for the poor." Today, this amazing material is finding its way into the collections of global brands.

The technological process of processing linen has hardly changed over the centuries. Linen textile fiber is obtained from the stem of the flax plant. Pure linen fabrics are considered premium materials primarily because the high-quality natural fiber has not been damaged by aggressive chemical processes.

Benefits of linen include: breathability, moisture absorption, hypoallergenic properties, high durability and strength, excellent shape retention, and the fact that it requires less water and chemicals to produce and does not attract or absorb odors. However, no one is perfect, and linen has its drawbacks. Its lack of elasticity or stiffness may not be desirable for everyone. The biggest disadvantage is probably its tendency to wrinkle.

Maintenance: wash colored items at 40°C, white at 60°C, iron on the linen setting (3 dots). As it is a natural fabric, it may bleed during washing. The material has higher shrinkage and wrinkling. It easily picks up colors from other materials.

Wool

An animal textile fiber obtained from animal hair. It has excellent thermal insulation properties. Fibers of varying coarseness are processed using different techniques and can also be blended with other types of fibers.

Fur

We recommend not washing, ironing, or drying near heat sources. Any dirt can be cleaned with gasoline and brushed out with a brush (or comb). Real fur will shed occasionally.

Leather

Do not wash, iron, or dry leather near heat sources. Smooth leather can be cleaned with soapy water and other products designed for this purpose. After getting wet, it is advisable to treat the leather with a softening agent or apply a leather conditioner.
