Helbrecht: Knight of the Throne

To start off, even though I've been reading Warhammer books for a while, I've never had much interaction with the Black Templars. I can't say the book is a disappointment, but I'm not exactly thrilled by it either. The book starts off very well with a short but masterfully executed prologue. Then follows about 100 pages introducing the characters and laying the groundwork for the plot. And that's where the problem lies—those 100 pages make up half the book. The plot described on the back cover just doesn't seem to want to arrive.
The second half deals with Helbrecht and his band of Brothers-in-Arms while they LARP as a 'Fast Company' on a ruined planet—essentially forming a team of various archetypes searching for a MacGuffin in a mysterious area while being hunted by a villain from the past (who is actually more interesting than they are).
But all joking aside, this 'Saturday morning cartoon' vibe isn't a bad thing at all, and this is where the story starts to pick up pace right up to a fairly satisfying finale.

Na začátek bych rád řekl, že ač jsem se do Warhammer knížek začetl už před nějakou dobou, nikdy jsem neměl velkou interakaci s Černými templáři. A nemohu říct, že by kniha byla zklamáním, ale nejsem z ní zrovna dvakrát nadšen. Je potřeba říct, že kniha začne velmi dobře krátkým ale výborně zvládnutým prologem. A následuje zhruba 100 stránek ve kterém se představují postavy a pokládají základy zápletky. A tady je trochu kámen úrazu - těch 100 stránek je polovina knihy. Zápletka popsaná na zadní straně knihy, jako by se nechtěla dostavit.
Druhá polovina se zabývá Helbrechtem a jeho bandou Bratrů ve zbrani zatímco na zničené planetě LARPují Rychlou Rotu, tedy tvoří tým složený z několika archetypů hledající Mcguffin v tajemné oblasti zatímco po nich jde záporák z minulosti (který je trochu zajímavější než oni).
Ale nyní bez humoru, tenhle pocit Saturday morning cartoon není vůbec na škodu a zde začne příběh nabírat na obrátkách až do poměrně uspokojujícího finále.
