Ostrava hosts Game Jam from March 27–29, 2026. Come create games, find a team, and check out the AI Hackathon and LLM experiment.

Spring is here, and with it, the celebration for all game creators returns to the Moravian-Silesian metropolis. Game Jam Ostrava is no longer just an intimate gathering of programming enthusiasts. This year, at the end of March, we are going big at the Ostrava Impact Hub – and for the first time, artificial intelligence enters the game in a major way.
Last year, game jams in the region attracted dozens of creatives and proved that Ostrava has a firm place on the map of Czech game development. The first event of this year will build on that success while raising the bar even higher. Beyond classic game creation, we have a special AI Hackathon and a very tempting technological experiment in store.
A Classic Jam, Just the Way You Know (and Love) It
If you are encountering this concept for the first time: a Game Jam is an absolute blast. You have exactly 42 hours to create a functional video game prototype from scratch in a team (of up to 4 people). And no, you don't have to be a seasoned veteran from a game studio. The most important thing is the drive to create, test crazy ideas, and collaborate.
The local Game Devs Ostrava community will provide the facilities, help you find teammates, and ensure top-notch service (including a kids' corner for parents who want to sneak away to code!). The weekend is primarily about fun, but it could easily spark the foundation for the next global hit.
New for 2026: NPCs That Actually Talk to You
The biggest draw this spring, however, is the news from the world of AI. The event is expanding to include an AI Hackathon, created in collaboration with the Czech start-up Rankacy. If you enjoy data and behavioral analysis, this is the challenge for you. The goal is to create a system that improves enemy AI to make them behave more realistically in games. What does that mean in practice? Games that players will want to return to, better difficulty balancing, and perhaps even new ways to fund games.
And then there is the Unreal Engine experiment. A team of experienced developers will attempt to create a game where NPC behavior and the gameplay itself are driven by a Large Language Model (LLM). Imagine this: game characters will understand what is happening in the game, dialogues will adapt to your decisions, and every playthrough will be completely different. If everything goes to plan, we will see one of the first public attempts to connect LLMs and real-time game design in the Czech Republic right here in Ostrava. Similar challenges are currently being tackled by the biggest game studios in the USA.
From Coal City to Tech Hub
Game Jam 2026 shows one more important thing. Ostrava no longer belongs only to heavy industry; it is increasingly profiling itself as a center for IT and innovation. The gaming industry is growing at a rocket pace and is no longer limited to entertainment. Engines like Unreal and Unity now help in medicine and the military, and are used to create industrial simulators or modern educational applications. The development of the gaming community is thus directly boosting our entire region.
