Excellent figure quality, especially regarding the size compared to previous releases.
The maps are still just paper, but they are well-crafted.
In my opinion, this is a truly high-quality effort since the last release, and I can highly recommend it to new players. The mechs by weight class are: LOCUST 20 TONS, COMMANDO 25 TONS, WOLVERINE 55 TONS, SHADOW HAWK 55 TONS, THUNDERBOLT 65 TONS, CATAPULT 65 TONS, AWESOME 80 TONS, BATTLEMASTER 85 TONS.
Výborná kvalita figurek i co se týče velikosti o proti předchozím vydaní.
Mapy jsou opět jen papírové ale kvalitně zpracovány.
Za mně opravdu kvalitní počin od posledního vydání a novým hráčům mužů jen doporučit. Obry jsou váhové kategorie: LOCUST 20 TŮN, COMMANDO 25 TŮN, WOLWERINE 55 TŮN, SHADOW HAWK 55 TŮN, THUNDERBOLT 65 TŮN, CATAPULT 65 TŮN, AWESOME 80 TŮN, BATTLEMASTER 85 TŮN.
The legendary BattleTech finally has a new starter box, and it looks fantastic. The resculpted 'old school' mechs are truly well-done. While the new maps are paper rather than cardboard, they are definitely impressive.
You'll appreciate the extra cardboard hex tiles for customizing your map and the additional cardboard mech standees that are perfect for beginners. If I had to criticize the box, it would be for the rather lackluster lore booklet, but otherwise, this set is the best entry point into the world of BattleTech.
And believe me, this world is perhaps the most sophisticated and polished sci-fi universe in existence...
Legendární Battletech se konečně dočkal nové startovní krabice a moc mu to sluší. Resculptovaní OBRové ze "staré" školy jsou opravdu povedení. Nové mapy jsou sice jen papírové (nikoliv kartónové), ale jsou rozhodně povedené.
Potěší extra kartónové hexové dílky, kterými si můžete mapu upravovat či kartónové extra figurky OBRů, které se hodí do začátku. Pokud bych měl krabici něco vytknout, tak u mě to je docela bídná fluffová příručka, ale jinak je tato krabice nejlepším vstupem do světa Battletechu.
A věřte, že tento svět je tím nepropracovanějším a nejvymazlenějším sci-fy universem, co snad existuje...
As a kid, I owned both the 3rd and 4th editions of BattleTech (the Czech versions). Now I'm returning to BattleTech and comparing this new version to the ones from Altar.
Plastic miniatures are back! Compared to the 3rd edition, there are fewer of them (only eight), but they are much more detailed and don't require assembly (they come in one piece). Their quality made me incredibly happy! There are also 9 cardboard standees included, so you can play larger battles. If you want more plastic miniatures of other Mechs, you'll need to buy them in expansions.
The game rules and Mech record sheets have changed only minimally. There are two maps again, and they have also changed only slightly.
The 'Introduction to BattleTech' booklet, a sort of simplified rulebook, is missing. It has been moved to the Beginner Box. However, I believe most players will manage without it.
On the other hand, cards for Alpha Strike have been added. AS is a simplified version of BattleTech that focuses more on the 'cinematic' feel of battles with many Mechs at once. It uses 3D terrain instead of hex maps and these simplified Mech cards instead of classic record sheets. Fans are generally divided into those who love Alpha Strike and those who love classic BattleTech.
Beyond that, there are just a few extras like a short story to set the mood and a brief overview of the Inner Sphere and the Great Houses.
Verdict: The new box is a proud successor to the old BattleTech from Altar. It features better plastic Mech models, full-color rules, a glossy box, and a few extra goodies. For me, it's great!
Jako kluk jsem měl 3. i 4. edici BattleTechu (ty české). Teď se k BattleTechu vracím a srovnávám tuto novou verzi s těmi od Altaru.
Vrátily se plastové figurky! Oproti 3. edici jich je méně (jen osm), ale zato jsou mnohem detailnější a nemusí se skládat (jsou v jednom kuse). Jejich kvalita mi udělala obrovskou radost! Je tu ale i 9 kartonových figurek, takže se dají hrát i větší bitvy. Pokud chcete další plastové figurky jiných OBRů, musíte si je dokoupit v rozšířeních.
Pravidla hry a palubní karty OBRů se změnily jen minimálně. Mapy jsou tu opět dvě a taky se změnily jen nepatrně.
Chybí tu sešit Úvod do BattleTechu, tedy jakási zjednodušenná pravidla. Ta se přesunula do krabice Beginner Box. Věřím ale, že většina hráčů se obejde i bez nich.
Naopak přibyly karty pro Alpha Strike. AS je zjednodušená verze BattleTechu, která se víc zaměřuje na ''filmovost'' bitvy mnoha OBRů najednou, místo hexových map používá 3D terén a místo klasických palubních karet používá právě tyto zjednodušené karty OBRů. Fanoušci se vesměs rozdělují na ty, co milují Alpha Strike, a ty, co milují klasický BattleTech.
Dále pak už přibyly jen drobnosti typu krátká povídka na nasátí atmosféry a krátký přehled Vnitřního Vesmíru a rodů.
Závěr: Nová krabice je hrdým nástupcem starého BattleTechu od Altaru. Má lepší plastové modely OBRů, barevná pravidla, lesklou krabici a ještě pár drobností navíc. Za mě super!
A great set if you're mainly after the miniatures, which are beautifully crafted and look even better once painted. The box also includes two double-sided maps, each unique, plus several cardboard tokens representing terrain that you can place however you like or leave out entirely. Every game feels a little different.
There are also a few cardboard mechs and cards for the Alpha Strike version.
It's a shame the box doesn't include the old maps and rules released in the Czech Republic, as the A4 size is slightly taller than the box format, but that's just a minor detail :)
Super set pokud chcete hlavně figurky, které jsou nádherně zpracované, po nabarvení ještě hezčí. V balení jsou také dvě oboustranné mapy, každá jiná + několik kartonových žetonů, které taky symbolizují terén a je možné je rozmístit libovolně nebo vůbec. Každá hra je tak trošku jiná.
Zároveň je ještě několik kartonových mechů a kartičky pro verzi Alpha Strike.
Smůla jenom, že do krabice nedostanete staré mapy a pravidla vydané v ČR, A4 je o trošku vyšší než formát krabičky, ale to je detail :)
